Not a reason, but some background: after getting serious about watches, fell in love with divers, and the Sub is the ultimate diving icon.

I purchased my first Rolex to celebrate a personal accomplishment. ll of the others have been investment pieces. I don't buy new, only pre owned, and only when I feel the deal is good enough so that I can make a little money when its time to flip.

Mine was a gift from the in-law's for our wedding. I was almost resistant at first never thinking I was a Rolex kind of guy. Had always worn a nice Citizen (or what I thought was nice!). I am now thinking about my next Rolex ;-)

Partially to celebrate a fresh start with a new company in a couple weeks, and partially because I have always wanted to and finally decided to pull the trigger this week. (I purchased today and it will arrive Wed, cannot wait!)

I was only planning on one luxury watch. I was a non-WIS and I wanted one that was classic style and brand recognition. I already had a omega seamaster chronodiver but I kept reading that omega isn't luxury. I don't know how true that is, maybe it was a couple years back. So I turned to Rolex, the epitome of luxury for a non-WIS, a submariner (14060m) to be specific, the epitome of a Rolex for a non-WIS. I ended up falling in love with the Explorer 1, not exactly the most recognizable Rolex but the versatility, clean dial, plus somewhere I read it being regarded as "the original sports watch", the need to be instantly recognized flew out the window.

Brand curiosity

Have been into watches for years. Have a Panerai collection. Walked into one of my fav watch shops in Beverly Hills. Asked them about a Sub C they had in the case and 30 minutes later they had my Panerai 292 and I had their Rolex Sub C. Everyone was happy. I am surprised how much I like the Rolex. I expected it to feel to small on my wrist, but have really enjoyed having it the last, two weeks.

I bought mine as my Grandpa gave each of his grandchildren a chunk of money a few years ago and asked us to use it to buy something special, unfortunately at the time I was running my own business and ended up using the money for that.

He gave us all another bigger chunk recently and despite having a 6 month old baby and a new house I decided to stick to his request to the letter this time.

I went and bought a brand new Explorer 1, with a hard negotiated 8% off it came in at under £4k.

He is still alive so can appreciate what I have done with the money and it will always remind me of him even when he is gone - he is 91 and going strong at the moment.

No reason. Once watches sparked my interest, it was only a matter of time.

When I was about 24 I noticed a SS Sub on the wrist of the guy preparing my taxes and I was absolutely hooked. I wouldn't rest until I had one.

I've always liked the look of rolexes. That coupled with the way they make everything in house is what hooked me.

Why did I purchase my Rolex? Because the sales asistant and security guard at the AD wouldn't let me take it without paying!

Seriously though, I have had a few watches and was never happy. The Sub Date is the one I had set my heart on, and as soon as I tired on the 16610 and then the 116610 I knew it was meant to be.

No special reason, other than I had the money in the bank, wanted one, and with price rises etc. felt that I might not be in the position to get one if I waited, and might regret not getting it.
