Bought a gmt 2 in france from AD 2002 for £2100 sold it a few weeks ago for £4000....just wish id bought 100 of them.

I would say that most Rolex vintage collections have gone up, unless you bought them last week

Exactly and trouble today Rolex watches are no longer watches to some but thought of a little more than £££$$$ will this go up or down etc.Most modern day Rolex are made in many thousands a mass produced product. Yes they will hold a greater part of the original price paid more than many other brands but investments they are not.

Every time I buy a new watch, I assume my watch collection has gone up in value.

I've either made a small amount or broken even on all my flips. The most I've kept a watch is about two years. Can't complain at all :)

I never sell my watches, so the only value I worry about is the value of the next watch I want to buy.

Bought a new Sea Dweller 16600 for £2,440 in 2004, sold it for £3,950 last year. Just wore it and looked after, no service or anything.

Yes, if anything the resale value of a modern Rolex is only a small factor in buying a luxury watch. I am not saying I like flushing money away on a lifestyle but resale value is a odd thing to consider for a true luxury purchase. If you can afford it and like it is all that is required in a "luxury" lifestyle purchase. Its funny to listen to someone defend why they bought their watch in practical terms as if they had to defend their extravagance to anyone.

I like that my Rolexes will not lose much value, if any, even if I keep them for years. That can't be said about many things one buys for pleasure. That's investment enough for me.

For the ones that I've had long enough for the continual price increases to positively affect the value from what I paid, yes.

For my more recent purchases, no. But give them time...

As long as Rolex doesn't hit a wall of consumer resistance at some price level, I should be OK eventually. Assuming, of course, I stop buying new watches at the continually higher prices.

I always loved that watch with the exception of the helium release valve on the side. If it wasn't for that I would have bought one.
