I've been the ultimate nerd about this for years - I have always fiddled to make sure that the minute hand is spot-on the minute mark (at the 12 o'clock position) as the second hand gets there.
However - have any of you noticed - the hand spindles are not always perfectly concentric with the dial and having the minute hand spot-on at the 12 o'clock postion does not necessarily mean that it is perfectly aimed at the minute marker at other points in the hour. Stan. |

I always use one of the minute ticks other than one of the 5 min markers when setting the time. They're much finer and accurate to use. All my Rolexes have been pretty good about aligning with all the others once set into motion. I've had many lesser watches where what you say is 100% true.

the minute hand lines up exactly on the minute line when the second hand reaches the 15 second mark. should i stop the watch and reset the second hand starting at 45?

I don't hold a grudge, T, but if it takes the rest of my life to get even, . . . .

Ah ha! I finally got the minute-hand lined up perfectly on the tick mark every time the second-hand completes a 60-second revolution. YES!
The method I ended up with is by hacking the second-hand exactly at 60 seconds, wind the minute-hand 10 minutes or so in advance, then ever so slowly re-wind it counter-clockwise exactly a minute slower than the actual minute, finally gentle releasing the crown so the "play / slack" moves itself exactly on the correct minute tick mark. Sound technical but it works. I love this place...thanks all for your input! |
