The kids will be expensive. Way more than the watch addiction I have.

Totally agree with everyone else....
Family first but as others have said try and strike a balance. I have a wife and three kids and as many of my friends on here know I've had some great times, some dreadful times, and now some 'relatively comfortable' times financially. So I now have quite a regimented and ambitious "saving/investment plan". Once I've met those goals I still then only put 20% (or one fifth/"my share") of any excess funds in my "watch fund". Some months I put nothing in there but it IS there and I can gradually see it growing without feeling guilty about it! Good luck mate it's all well worth the hard workand effort..... And by "all" I mean the family AND the watches!

Kids are great......and frustrating at same time
I bought my Rolex late in life, 50 years old, and only because I had all household and family finances in order and could buy it and not miss the money. Family always comes first and certainly before toys. If you can budget it in after other expenses great, if not wait. You'll certainly be happy you did. My two cents..... Chuck |

I disagree with y'all! My kids are in public school, eat TV dinners, have paper routes, and mow lawns so I can continue to build my watch collection......
Just kidding- didn't get my first until I was 40. I have 3 kids and none of the above apply. |

Bought my first Rolex after youngest kid was born (1990). It was one of those 18 months, no interest store credits; I paid it off months early. The monthly payments never impacted our budget at all. Fast forward after several years- tt Thunderbird went to oldest son in 2012, GMTII-3186 Coke went to youngest son when he graduated from college early last month. It felt good to pass it to them.
To the OP - the right time will come soon for you to have yours and it will be great. |

My soon to be wife wants kids. I don't. I have worked all my life to put myself in a position to retire. Now to have kids? Scary. She wants to keep working and have me be a stay at home Dad i.e "Mr. Mom." Can someone please talk me into this. I want to make her happy, but kids at 52?

Kids at 52. That is a hard one. It's great that your wife-to-be wants to have children with you but at 52 it's not a straight-forward decision the way it might be at 32 or even 42.
Kids take a minimum of 20 years intensive work to raise and about $250K/child. You have 50% say in this. Good Luck.

Family defiintely comes first. I bought my Sub before I was married, bought a house, had our daughter, etc. My daughter is almost 1 year old.. I don't see another Rolex coming for a while and I'm fine with that. I'm not sure if we'll go for another child... as others said.. they are pretty expensive! (but totally worth it...)

No kids, no plans to have kids. Wife and I have a cat and that's enough for us!
