Great question? I don't know, it would depend on how it looked. I am trying my best to keep myself to the Rolex watches I own. I would still buy a SD if Rolex changes it in the near future with a Maxi-dial.

the first watch I ever tore apart totally and reassembled was a rolex precision mid-size model I picked up on ebay for 600 bucks,to tell the truth I was a bit nervous, but then I said to myself just do it,and thats how I started to work on watches,I really love to work on Cartier watches, they are amazingly simple for an expensive watch.I can buy all the parts for a cartier on ebay for just a few hundred-including a broken down hull, refinish it and get it running again, then flip it for about two grand.also-it is a pleasure to do!I love to tinker with watches, and if you can make some money as well, then superb.

Rolex quartz, not for me.

I like the mechanicals which is why I have 8 in the watch box, three are Rollies. And then there's the old school Timex, the 300g Russian diver and the Atmos. Yup I just love mechanical timepieces.

I do have a confession, I have 3 quartz watches..... all of them need a battery change

No, to be honest.

The problem with quartz watches are the headaches of having to go to your AD to have the battery changed and the watch pressure tested. All this can cost quite a bit, more so with a Rolex.

While it does have its advantages like you don't need a winder, super accuracy, etc., you can only enjoy these advantages for about 18 months or so before the battery gives way.

Honestly.....not worth it!!

I agree with you JJ, but just to play devils advocate...

What if the battery lasted 3 years and what if Jocke and Tools could tell us how to replace our own batteries and gaskets? Then we'd be talkin

Even if we received a tutorial on battery replacement, we don't even have the proper tools, experience, knowledge or know-how. Are you prepared to take that risk? It's not easy if you're not a watch maker.

Besides.....we don't even have the expensive equipment to pressure test the watch. I would never attempt something like that on my own.

of course you're right about the pressure testing, but I would still think about it for a dress model.

Then we'll have to deal with the "should I keep my old Rolex battery"? Or " Should I buy an extra Rolex battery before the price increase"? Or "what packaging did your Rolex battery come in"?
Mechanical watches are and have been obsolete for decades. But we love knowing all those gears, springs, screws, and rubies are working in unison to tell the time accurately and look great while doing it encased in a classic oyster case.

Of course, it the watch is only used periodically, you can pull out the stem to stop the time which increases battery life significantly. I'm averaging 7-10 years on a battery that way.

My father in law has owned an OysterQuartz for about 25 years, and at least in Argentina, the AD will change your battery at no cost ˇfor life! (yours or the watch's, whichever ends first)
