My grail watch, I actually prefer it serviced and looking like new. I would not worry about it too much.

Hey, bro...retired US Army Officer here. I understand your sentiment. You didn't ruin anything. I think it's great that you gave it a long overdue servicing/refreshing. Now wear the piss out of it and make some more memories and forget about it.

Think how much your kids or grandkids will appreciate it one day knowing that dear old dad or granddad wore it and knocked it around a bit. Also think of it this way, you not only updated it for you, but also for the next generation. It will be around much longer than you will...so you did the right thing.

amazing how many young soldiers end up buying a very nice watch through the PX system or an off-post pawn shop. That said, as much as i love my Explorerii, i sometimes ended up wearing a lowly GShock when in the field or deployed. Cheap, non-reflective, tough to break. Great to see other fellow soldiers on here, and such support from everyone else.

I graduated in 74 and picked up a root beer from the C-store for about $220. The first $500 service for the watch brought tears to my eyes.
