I too have faced this dilemma and could never quite arrive at the conclusion that I should sell my 114060. It is the watch I truly wanted, if only it could be a little bigger I think the DSSD would never have crossed my mind.

Here is just another guys opinion... I think the DSSD is a super cool watch but is too thick for me and I'm not a small guy. I originally wanted the DSSD too but once I put on the Sub C I knew it was the watch for me. That is the real key though. It's what makes me the happiest and only can decide that. Here's the great news.
1. You can't go wrong either way as they are both amazing watches
2. Your Sub will hold value and the DSSD will always be there in case you want to flip it later.

I have had my Deepsea now for 5 years. Up until this past Saturday when I purchased a new GMTII BLNR, the DSSD was my daily wear for the past 5 years.

I've worn this watch to any and every event. Wore it to work in Polo Golf T-Shirts, a suit, into the ocean, into the lake..............just about everywhere.

It's a very well made watch. Strong like an ox. For a daily wear it has very little scratching on it. I'm always conscious of it when it's on my wrist. You have to be or you'll be leaving holes everywhere you go when bang it into things. It really has presence. It really stands out.

In the past there was much concern with regards to the bracelet. I can tell you the bracelet is very well designed, and the glidelock is awesome for micro adjustments. I have checked the bracelet very carefully and can tell you with much confidence that after 5 years of constant wear, there is no bracelet stretch.

It's unfortunate that your AD didn't have a DSSD in the case when you were there to buy the ND. On 2 occasions I was set to make a purchase on a particular model, however, I'd check other models besides the one I wanted just to make sure I was making the right choice. On one of those occasions, I ended up making a last minute decision and going with something else. That was the SD. I'd still have that thing if they hadn't come out with the DSSD.

Sounds like money is no object to you and you're prepared to take a loss on the ND if you come across a DSSD and turns out you like it.

The Sub is a beauty. If it’s your grail, then I would keep it because you’ll regret it otherwise. However, if you’re only worried about I being a daily wearer, I wouldn’t worry TOO much. Personally, I wouldn’t have it as my daily wearer if I didn’t have another watch for suits or more formal casual wear (even nice shoes, jeans, single/double cuff shirt w/blazer). I have a DJ2 blue index dial for more formal wear but, I also wear it for casual wear. The DSSD doesn’t let a double cuff shirt flow up & down my arm and the cuff would get caught which is not acceptable for me in a business environment.

All that being said, I had the choice to have 2 watches and I wanted a chunky large watch to go with my somewhat large wrists. I do not have fat arms but, I would have still needed extra links for a submariner to fit me out of the box. Therefore, the DSSD looks similar to a Sub on me, relatively-speaking because of my 8” wrists of course. Even though it looks similar to a Sub, because of my large wrists, you can tell it’s thicker but, I really likely that. I find it really comfortable and LOVE the glidelock. I can wear it with anything.

A colleague of mine tried it on and he has about 6 ¼-6 ½” wrists. It looks extremely noticeable on him. I know a lot of people like that. I think it looks good on a lot of people. For me though, I don’t think I would have liked it at that size; to reiterate, I mean relative to wrist size.

So, of course it depends on your preference (especially since the Sub is your grail!) but, for me, wrist size is a major factor. Do whatever tickles your fancy, don’t apologize, and remember you can always change your mind…and probably will.

Here's another vote to hang on to your grail, the 114060. I have the DSSD and as much as I like it with all its bells and whistles, it's the least worn piece in my Rolex collection. As a daily wearer there's no contest so enjoy your Sub and worry about adding the Deepsea when the time comes.

Get lots of them for the DSSD.
Sure, its a great piece and a technical marvel, but it's also a big sucker.

here's another vote for keeping the 114060. It's a good all around watch, very comfortable to wear, and tough. Instead start saving up for your NEXT rolex - whether it be a DSSD, a GMT or a DJ - one rolex is never enough.

I agree, I had one and loved the watch but it was just a bit too thick and top heavy for regular wear so I traded it for a subc. I liked it on a thick rubber strap more than the thin bracelet but I prefer to wear a Rolex on a bracelet so it wasn't a perfect solution. If you have a couple of other watches the DSSD is great in rotation but a sub is better for everyday.

In terms of physical appearance and presence, nothing can beat the DSSD.
It is definitely a piece to own. Catches attention whereever you go and is often mistaken for the sub.

You want to own a car that you can drive every day, is relatively very commonly seen and does not have much shock value, like the Porsche 911??

OR

You want to own a Lamborghini Countach? A hard to drive car, with its own set of issues -- definitely not a commute car but when you come out on the road with a Countach, you sir are God-- the chosen one---at least on a cop car's radar!... all eyes on you...mesmerizing, intoxicating and hypnotizing ---something not seen in decades by most mortals..some have never ever seen it...indescribable yet worth every penny ...

So in short, SUB is the 911, DSSD is the Countach...

Pics speak for themselves, but I believe they wear pretty similar on my flat wrist.

Height was a slight issue under cuffs, but a total non-issue for the sub.

The Sub is the best sport/dive watch out there, IMO. The DSSD is much less 'sport', much more 'dive'. To me, the DSSD looks great in the display case, and when you put one on in the AD's shop, no doubt it gives a jolt of adrenalin (or perhaps testosterone) But if I had to wear it every single day...the wear and tear on my shoulders and wrist ligaments from just strapping it on would wear me out.

I vote to keep your grail...if the Sub is going to be your one and only Rolex, then she is a keeper. Perhaps the DSSD can be your new grail!

I think the Sub will be a more comfortable daily wearer and looks great on your wrist. You can always swing the DSSD later down the road

IMHO on your wrist the Sub is a more proportional watch, and a perfect fit. Try on the DSSD when you have a chance, but I doubt it would be a better fit for you.

I have owned the DSSD on numerous occasions and it is always traded within a few months for another piece. My Sub C (LV) has been the one constant in my collection because it is so perfect for daily wear. It is not just the weight of the DSSD, but the high center of gravity combined with the weight that causes it to be uncomfortable to me.

I feel that the DSSD is great to own as part of a larger collection, but as a daily wearer, the Sub works much better for me. Keep the 114060 as a watch that does everything well and add less practical options later.

LOL. I am a huge Lamborghini girl and you couldn't pay me to drive a Countach :)
