I'm under 30 and I've never had a Facebook account. People think I'm joking when I tell them that. I've never navigated a Facebook page in my life and I will keep it that way. My wife doesn't have one either, and our lives are better for it.

I'm in the minority here. I have one and use it. But to be clear, I control who I see in my news feed by choosing whether or not to "follow them". And yes, here on TRF, people post inane things (food, family, vacation, pets, etc.), as well as some comments I find offensive occasionally, and like FB, I have the control here to add them to my ignore list. It's the user's responsibility today to control the content they choose to see. It's about personal responsibility.

This is pretty much why I think Facebook will be difficult to discard for many people. Back when all my friends and colleagues jumped on Facebook (and I was the 'late' adopter compared to them), pretty much everyone of them that had a friends/family blog to share photos and what not just let their sites stagnate and die simply because they found FB to be the easier medium to share photos and family updates.

But while I'm a FB user, I still prefer my blog for content/information sharing.

Frankly, I think snapchat is the one service that is going to die before Facebook. I have no idea why the guy who created it turned down the $3B offer to buy it out. Seriously, the only real benefit of snapchat is to send messages you don't want to be held accountable for (e.g. 'sexting', hate messages, illicit deals, stuff you don't want your parent/spouse/etc to see). There is a demand for this type of service, but how long snapchat can operate without pulling in any revenue is the rub.

Unless Facebook changed Instagram's privacy policy, I wouldn't allow my kids to post a single personal pic on that site. Unlike Facebook, once you post a pic on Instagram, it belongs to instagram. They can publish and even sell your pics and you get zero say or compensation

By posting pics on FB, you are sub-liecnsing your pics FB for use until you remove it or delete your account.

I'm also a regular Facebook user but follow the same level of responsible use as you. I have been able to reconnect with people that I lost contact with and it's great.

It's Instagram and a few others... But teens are actually "hanging" out in person again... just like the old days. And this trend will continue.

However, the "News Feed" on my page has become nothing but a stream of cute cat videos, photos of someone else's food, ridiculous inspirational posters, political commentaries based on urban legends sworn to be true, endless invitations to play Candy Crush Saga and humble-brags such as "I certainly hope I will be able to access the internet as I tour Cannes, Rome and Paris."

I heard a news item last week saying that Facebook will lose 70% of its users in the next few years. I have no trouble believing it. Gotta go now. I see another crowd of women gathered around my new Lamborghini parked in front of my beach house. So annoying!
There's nothing wrong with Facebook you just have boring friends...

Yup! I despise Facebook.

Not the idea, which is quite brilliant, but it's members.

Same here. It is ridiculous status updates and (must be made up) stories about "how smart my 2 year old is".

I mean some of these claimed sentences from kids are in the league of Voltaire!

For teens FB has become the new bullying channel.

I'm very seldom on FB, and If I'm there it's truly to catch up with someone who I wouldn't be able to contact other wise. (Brilliance of FB) I also do a bit of sneaking around when I get a job application. So many applications have been discarded due to someones Facebook. Sad people don't "get this".

What is Facebook?

I guess I missed this craze as TRF is enough to keep me occupied.

My husband calls Instagram "a pedophile's paradise." You can choose to make your kids' accounts private and to block specific followers. Before I knew this was possible, and really because I didn't know anything about Instagram at all, my kids had dozens of "followers" I had never heard of. The were people who had no business accessing my kids' photos.

Never had any of these problems because I've never had an account or page or whatever. 0% electronic social media in my world. This place is as close to the sun as I get. If I want to socialize I do it the old fashion way. I go to restaurants, bars, plays, movies, other peoples homes. I do it using my phone, email, vehicles, public transit, feet. I share my life with people who have an interest in it. I don't push it on people. I already have too many friends.

Im not on FB either. My friends get mad and refuse to send me pics of their kids/pets cause I "could see them all on FB". I would rather not be on FB just to see pictures. And I don't need to know what everyone is doing at every minute of the day.

I got a google account for You Tube and the darn Hang Out section kept popping up. I signed off that garbage pretty quick. ;-) My nursing buddy told me to join Linkedin...and I did...only I didnt realize how HARD it was to erase yourself from that. UGH! I don't need it to "network". I think I managed to delete my account as much as I could and I never log on. I think my account was active for a week. LOL Then I started getting invites and decided I didnt want to be invited by the ones who did. LOL I was outta there.

I dont twitter, instagram or do anything like that. Too much is too much. I iMessage, text, email and What's App (I like this one cause you can leave voice notes) which is plenty if you need to reach me. Oh ya....lets not forget the phone part. LMAO

Facebook has ostensibly morphed into the greatest retired grandparents stalking tool ever invented. This is also why the kids are leaving in droves, put yourself in their shoes, who wants to be on a site where your parents parents are keeping tabs, it's teetering on unfix-ably uncool status.
