I can't imagine any of my friends asking. Those that care already have their own and those that don't care would never ask.

borrowing a Rolex

I have loaned my most valuable Rolex to my oldest Son once- for his Senior Prom. It was a James Bond Rolex on the appropriate strap.

Only if you don't care if they lose it or break it and can't afford to relpace/repair it. If you can deal with that then sure.

Can't see the point of someone "borrowing" a watch....Doesn't he have a watch of his own to indicate the time?
Is it (obviously) to try & look cool by showing someone "hey, look at my "borrowed" Rolex. Sounds dorky & lame....Rent it for $8000, $7800 returned if watch is returned PERFECT .......If not, New Owner.....gha

No way!!! My GMT is very personal to me - it is a part of me and anyone who matters in my life would never ask to borrow my watch. And anyway - what's the big deal with going on a night out with a borrowed watch - who is the wearer trying to falsely impress?

try it on, yes...but to take it for the night, probably not. that's how i feel about my cars as well; if a friend wants a test drive (and i know they are competent with a manual transmission) that's cool with me...but i wouldn't let a friend take my car for the night (or even drive it w/o me in it)

Only to someone who is very, very close. The rule is: You bend it, you mend it!

I offered my DD to my brother-in-law to wear at wedding, but HE declined, as he was a bit nervous wearing such an expensive watch.

Of course, saying yes is a must. That's why there's a word CLOSE FRIEND.

To ask another question: "Is a Rolex worth more than a true friendship?"

Or most guys would buy/give anything to their wives/girlfriends who (50%) would end the relationship sooner or later in the United States. Then why our CLOSE FRIENDS do not deserve much better?

It's sad to see the majority of answers are "no" here in this forum. That's fine. Then when needed, YOU should TALK to the Rolex instead OF calling YOUR friends.

It's just a few fricking K WATCH.

I don't need friends that want to borrow my watch to impress others. If they need $$ to help them through a tough spot, no problem. If they need a place to stay for a bit I can deal with that. If they need me to bail them out of jail in the middle of the night I'm there. You want to borrow my Rolex for what? Buddy get a grip... not going to happen.

It's an interesting question. I have several friends who have Rolexes today but I bought my 1st Sub 20 years ago and not one of them has ever asked to borrow any of my watches, then or now. I think the question would be why would you like to borrow it or maybe even better to ask what kind of person would ASK to borrow it.

If my father for example asked to use one of my watches, of coarse. He can take his pick. One of my friends? I would be hard pressed to say yes. Sorry if some feel it would be selfish but it would make me uncomfortable to loan one out. You can pretty much borrow anything else but the Wife, TA ( the car, not my wifes) or my watches.

The point of the question is a CLOSE FRIEND. A true close friend sometimes will do things for us that even our own parents, brothers or sisters will not do for us. That is the kind of the CLOSE FRIEND i'm talking about here.

It takes YEARS, TRUST, HEART, UNDERSTANDING, SHARING etc. to have a CLOSE FRIEND.

If a guy uses his own judgement/standard to deny a close friend's request, that is not a behavior of a real friend toward a close friend.

When a close friend asks to pick him up at 2am, we don't ask why. We just do it. We only ask why to the strangers or acquaintances.

There is a ocean of difference between the CLOSE FRIEND & FRIEND or ACQUAINTANCE.

When a close friend asks to borrow just a WATCH (thing) and is denied, then what a close friend is for??? For chit chat????

You and I have a different definition of a CLOSE FRIEND.
