Hi guys,

Does AP boutique offer any discount for the 15202 jumbo? I'll be going to Switzerland this summer and looking forward to trying this if I can find one.

Does anyone here prefer the 15400 blue to the 15202?

Yes, I tried both on at the AD in Taipei and very much prefer the 15400 over the 15202. From photos, I though the 15202 would be the one for me. I guess I was wrong.

No discounts from Boutique and for me no comparison but to each his own. The Jumbo is truly a special watch!

I did not get any discount at the boutique either for the 15202 but did get 5 yrs of warranty. I listened to the forum members and went the boutique route based upon the 5 yr warranty, the scarcity of the 15202 in blue and knowing that I am buying directly from AP.
To me, the 15400 felt big on my 7 inch wrist and so went with the Jumbo but have not tried it in person yet!! Will be receiving it soon and will post pictures.
Good luck!!

Buying 15202 from AP Boutique- Is it worth it?

Crazy question...does anyone have a side x side x side shot of the 15300, 15202 and 15400 in Blue dial?

Would love to see the differences in shades...

Perhaps I should start a thread. But with the nice competitive conversation happening here...

Thanks jimmypark54 and SteelerFan65, listened to your advice and had them remove two links- they said that should be perfect for my 7 inch wrist- if not, I do have an AD nearby but the boutique said I could also overnight it to them and they will resize it and send it right back.

Ots, I called the boutique to find out if they have a 15202 for me to try when I am there in May but they said this one just came in and not sure if it will be around till then- always wanted the blue dial and since the 15400 felt big to me, I rationalized that this will be perfect!!

Lots of luck with your new watch. I have my eye on this myself. Post some wrist shots when it arrives.

I genuinely think the 15400 is a great watch in its own right. The 15400 is a beefier and solid piece that is all about presence in an understated modern way. Go for it!

The 15400 fits you perfectly eamonn! What was your initial reaction after seeing the 15202 side by side?

The color blue is nowhere near its elegance if you put in under a halogen. It should be under natural daylight.

Got the watch today!! Maria and Indira at the Bal Harbour boutique were amazing. Sent me an AP crystal paper weight as well as a RO keychain as well. Two links wer removed and the watch is very snug- in fact I am sending it back to have them add one link.
Here are some quick photos.

If its your first, you should def go through a boutique. AS many already stated, you get some nice items and invitations to annual partys etc.

Subtona,

Are there really two versions of the tapisserie? I went to the NYC boutique the other day and was only shown one with "finer" version, where I actually thought the spacing was too wide. Otherwise, it was fantastic.

1240 (current 40th anniversary version) (only offered with a blue dial)
1)AP above 6
2)Rotor is a bit more industrial looking (maybe not as lovely as the older version, but still customizable:))
3)Black/blue date wheel
4)Date indicator without white border
5)Finer tapisserie (similar to original) (fyi there are two versions of this dial, 1is slightly larger tapisserie than the other)
6)Slightest bit thicker than the older version
7)Imho a nicer blue
8)No numeric seconds indicator on dial (less cluttered)
9)Slightly thicker bracelet (not quite as thick as the 15300/15400)
10)Butterfly clasp (i find it very comfortable)

Vs

944 (offered with several different colored dial options + a special edition purist pro version)
1)AP @ 12
2)Rotor is more artsy & flowing
3)White date wheel
4)Date indicator with white border
5)Larger tapisserie (modern phenomenon)
6)Thinner than newest but thicker than oldest (original 72 version did not have see through caseback)
7)Blue is a bit lighter, not as blue
8)Arabic seconds indicators on the periphery of the dial
9)Thinner bracelet (as the original design)
10)Older folding clasp (i have read complaints of comfort)

Imho, Most meaningful, is all versions retain the original JLC movement, eventually purchased by and used exclusively by AP (original Patek Nautilus also used this movement in the 1976 Nautilus but eventually went to an in house movement as a result of AP's purchase, imho removing the modern Nautilus a significant step away from the original)

My initial reaction on the 15202 was ''wow! It's tiny!'' Like its a woman's watch but after wearing it again I think i get it. It's very light and a perfect fit. Also, it feels like a dress watch as it feels very elegant to wear. But the 15400 I think serves a purpose in its own right. It's more macho and masculine with a lot of presence. A modern reincarnation! Also, it's more heavy and feels a lot more resilient for everyday use.

I still can't see myself buying the 15202 due to the additional costs and losing money on a 3-month old 15400. After last year's losses on watches, I'd rather take my time and get a watch for long-term use. My flipping days are over!

I will not be paying sales tax either way. I know I can get an extra yr of warranty if I buy from an AD but have to send it in for a ?check up, but is the extra 2 yrs worth the extra money?

Thanks in advance and excited about my first AP!!
I was looking at some old threads and came across this! Wow how the times have changed! Really enjoyed reading the comments here, there are even some current usernames I recognize. Love that people in 2014 were debating whether it is worth paying MSRP at a boutique to buy a 15202 as a walk in for your first AP! Mind blowing how different the watch game is now. Happy 4th everyone!

I think in 2014 the price of 15202st probably was a lot less than today price, so the price has gone up more than double now at the gray market.
