It happens. I was in clinic the other day with a Breitling SA. A patient commented: "nice watch, is this the new Seiko?" I said yes.

Great watch, you have there. Enjoy it in good health!

Exactly! That's what I was thinking. Also a little odd that the guy had heard of Nixon but yet didnt know his was a Rolex. I'd assume that if he knew enough about watches to had heard of that brand to be sure he had "some" knowledge of Rolex's. But yet I assume and we know what that means. Lol

Nice Sky Dweller by the way. It's beautiful.

Wow I might get voted off the island for this but here goes.

As a skateboard / snowboard kid of the 80's and 90's I'm well versed in Nixon watches. In fact I still own three of them. Yes they are fashion watches, yes they are cheap quartz watches, yes the three I own never get worn, but they were gateway watches for me. If it wasn't for them there is a good chance I'd never have purchased the three Rolex and two Glashutte's I own.

In the current climate where less than 50% of kids wear watches I think we should all be happy when someone even acknowledges that watches exist. I understand that mistaking a Rolex for a Nixon is offensive but really are we that far removed from the real world that we can't take the time to educate instead of making fun.

Remember Rolex can sell their watches for the price they do because they make close to a million a year. If the next generation doesn't pick up the habit and that number falls to half a million and the price reflects that how many of us loose contact with the ability to support our hobby.

BTW Nixon now makes a couple models with ETA 7750 movements so they are maturing as a company as their customers age and move upmarket.

In truth, one could have taken the time to educate them on how nice the Rolexes really are? Then it is possible that there could have been a new customer in the works.

Nixon is the best, and is def a gateway watch. I don't own any Nixon's but have been tempted while hanging out in surf shops.

I do own a Sky D, and it does bring some looks.

That's hilarious!

BTW....I've been considering a Polar Explorer which is 42 mm, which is the same size as your Sky Dweller. However, the SD looks a lot bigger in your picture.

I have a Nixon 51-30 tide watch that I wear surfing. None of my Rolexes can do that...and (gasp) who would wear a Rolex in the Ocean!

51-30 tide, great watch. I sold that exact watch on my way to a Frederick Constant, which sold on the way to a Tag, which sold on the way to a GMT IIc.
