Plus a reminder I'm not doing too bad for affording one but I can do a lot better if I want to achieve others in the range.

Are you guys kidding? It's a company that's lost its way in the pursuit of money. At one time they may have been everything being said. Quality, innovation, heritage. But now it's profits. Luxury above all. The new pepsi GMT sums it all up to me. Alienate the very demographic that made that watch iconic by offering it in white gold. No airline pilot will be able to afford this. That with their (in my opinion ) criminal unwillingness to supply repair parts outside of their own network makes me want to never purchase a watch from them again.

Vintage only and hope I can keep it running with the spares that are available on the open market.

The classic and still the best. Envy of all watch makers the reputation the Submariner (which I love) has, even more expensive watches.

I love Bond wore it (well, it should have been an Explorer but who cares) and a history that goes back a long time. Add in everything all other members have mentioned and you have something unique.

I love it was founded in London (ok by a German or Austrian but again who cares) and that HW put two words together to make "Rolex" while sat on a London bus so the world would be able to say the word! - not sure this is true but my AD told me that!

I just love how the divers look, not been tempted by other models and with a new SDc on the horizon I think I will be staying with the divers!

Worth the price, heck yes.

Pre 2008 - Quality, reliable, good value and resales.
Post 2008 - Quality, more luxurious and a bit 'spensive.

Still good, and that history is there until the seminal watches can't be repaired due to part unavailability.

Then it'll be a luxury brand with a dim and distant history of greatness.

Yes, the prices have gone up and up, but so has everything else of value, no? PP average prices are of nice mid sized cars (I know PP is different level, just saying). Unfortunately, this is not our father's world anymore and as such, only those fortunate enough to earn well above your average person can afford the cost of entry for a new Sea Dweller, etc. I wish it wasn't that way. I also wish that your average 9-5 father could afford to have his wife raise his kids at home, a 2 car garage and white picket fence with a nice vacation every year, in other words, a strong middle class like our father's experienced. It saddens me that those days will never be seen again, but you can't blame Rolex.

Incredible quality for a watch that is "mass-produced"
Attention to detail that most in even higher price brackets just don't bother with!

I know most people wouldn't associate Rolex with that. But it's an all in-house Swiss watch with tons of history and pedigree. So many styles that dress up and down so easily, and truly durable enough for everyday usage in any conditions most people would face.

It's one of the few watch brands where almost anything in that lineup you could buy and have it be your only watch for the rest of your life.
That's a good point

I like their history, reliability, and durability. If properly serviced a Rolex could easily last for several generations. I know that parts can be a problem, but most worn out parts are so because of lack of service.

Lol....just lol. This airline pilots affording gold watches is ridiculous, poor pilots can't buy gold and platinum watches, oh the horror......not to mention there's still two other choices and God knows how many other brands or the fact that they don't even "need" a GMT Pepsi ss Rolex to do their job in 2014.
I completely disagree with your whole statement and even wonder why you bother with this section if you have so much disdain for Rolex. Just because they made what every body wanted at a price at which they can profit....uhh business, they are not our friend you know.
The fact that they protect there parts is something I can actually stand behind as it controls counterfeiting and an over saturated market of scammers selling parts. If I had a vintage Rolex I can think of at least three different places I could send my watch to be cared for with authentic Rolex parts.
Good thing every word you said was opinion.

As far as what Rolex means:
I'm a baller, shot caller...

Honestly ...perfection, refinement, over-priced (I didn't always think that though. I just think the increases are out of control ).
