It is what it is.

I think seeing a red/blue bezel insert on a GMT IIc is now code for WG for those in the know.

Where is all the guys that said: When the GMTIIc Pepsi is out there I will order one?

Of course a grail watch shouldn't been made of steel.

I'm glad it was re-introduced, it is iconic and now a grail. So at least it now exists and is something to shoot for!

X2

only thing I am waiting for is to see if they issue a Coke in WG also next year as I would rather have that than a Pepsi.

We can hold out for a SS Coke perhaps, but a SS Pepsi is now a dream only...

My opinion? Good for the company, bad for the collector, aficionado or GMT fan, except those with considerable means.

I plan to live vicariously through the pictures of the gifted few who buy that beaut!

If you really, like really, want it, you`ll be able to get it. Even if it means years of saving and/or selling of other watches. Prioritize. Hard.

If not, move on. There are enough nice pieces among Rolex`models and other brands to chose from.

Last time I checked, there were still two SS versions of the GMTIIC being offered.

My two Pesos........Rolex is here to make money, no doubt, so here's my take on their marketing strategy...
Step 1. Introduce a much talked about, wished/hoped for new model(Ceramic Pepsi), but make it in WG.......get the customer drooling.
Step2. Wait for a couple of Price Hikes, and introduce a SS c-Pepsi/ Coke at a higher price than the Black/Blue GMT.
Step 3. Sell a whole pile of SS Pepsi/Coke models, and believe you me, they will sell like hot cakes.

Just give it some time, the SS models will be out in a predetermined amount of time.

The GMT with blue/red bezel is one of the most iconic watches ever made. Reintroducing it as a gold model only says something about how much Rolex has changed. Sure many collectors will love it, but if it originally only was offered as a gold watch it would not be an icon in the first place. To each their own but I feel like I am over Rolex a bit.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels this way. I feel very fortunate and blessed to say that I own one. I feel like I will only have this one, Platinum YM, and that will be ok with me. I will still be intrigued with the beautiful watches they create, most out of my price range, but for the foreseeable future I will stick to one. Never in my wildest dreams would I have ever thought that I would get my grail watch. I will enjoy the pictures from everyone else.

I have no problem what's so ever. Collectors look to vintage.
The true Pepsi IMO is the 1675. Would I buy the new WG Pepsi yes, but it's down the list.
For me something like this.
WG Daytona on a strap.
Root Beer GMT on a jubilee.
Bluesy Sub.

I don't think it'll happen. Historically, rolex white gold models are only made in white gold (ie WG sub), therefore, I wouldn't hold my breath. I think there are much better odds in seeing a SS Coke.

I waited until Basel 2014, I really wanted a SS pepsi, so pulled the trigger on a Black/Blue Ceramic GMT and couldn't be happier. Just have to move on.

I believe a lot of people will do that.

BLNR is the only SS option for a two tone bezel and it will stay that way.

We need to make it a sticky...no identical WG / SS

Spoke to my AD who is quite astute and has been an AD for 35 years his opinion is that the Pepsi will be limited to White Gold..I hope he is wrong and that Rolex with take a less Elitist approach to this iconic model.

rolex sells plenty of ss models and there's other gmt's available in ss and every rolex model needs a 'grail' variation for people who want a halo. this is actually nothing new and follows similar rolex model strategy that's been in-place for decades. i don't think we'll see a ss pep-c but i do think we might see many cracked gmt-c bezels asking for pep-c bezels as replacements if ad's can do the install w/o sending to an rsc.

i don't really like what rolex did here but i understand why they did it.

oh well.

Why? AFAIK the BLRO still has this complication and functions the same way.

Most of us here of course already know the Rolex policy about bezel replacements. But I'd imagine many average customers will go in ignorantly/innocently asking to change the bezel to the Pepsi.

Assuming someone can figure out how to actually get the inserts out without special tools I predict a peculiar engineering problem with the bezel inserts on the new BLRO whereby many of them fall out inexplicably and get lost, thus causing a flood of requests for replacements. Many of these lost inserts will ultimately be found and end up on EBay.

What is the platinum going to be? I'm assuming it's coming. If it does it won't be as good as it could of been because it should of been the Pepsi.
My guess is it would either be a Coke, or a white dial Pepsi as an homage to the mythical PanAm Desk Pilot.

I do not think we will see a SS Coke GMT. Why would Rolex just change the blue on the PepC to black, therefore make it just as desirable but cost much much less. That is just not good business sense.

I hope I am wrong though.

I'm kind of happy they released in WG only. If they had released in SS I would have to consider flipping my new-to-me 2004 16710 Coke for a new model. So sort of hoping for neither a Coke or Pepsi in SS. Also keeps the value up on the older models.

Well… actually I have been contemplating this one. Do I buy the new ceramic Pepsi or spend more for a Paul Newman ? I love them both but will the Pepsi keep going up in price? I know I should not worry about that but for that much money it comes to mind as I could invest vs buy a watch.

It is an iconic watch.

Knowing this, Rolex chose to raise a middle finger salute, not on just one hand, but both, to its loyal fan base.

Rolex collectors should not focus on recent offerings of WG Pepsis, platinum Daytonas and RG Skydwellers unless they can afford them. Aficionados should focus on historical tool watches that built the Rolex name over the decades, such as the steel Pepsi. I browsed Rolex AD in South Coast Plaza, Irvine yesterday evening. Tool watches were heavily downplayed in favor of diamond bezel, diamond dial as well as platinum/gold watches. It appears that Rolex is upping the bling and average cost of their brand, and transitioning away from tool watches. It fits the times. I will stay vintage/recent vintage...nothing wrong with a nice sub or GMT. Nearly timeless. Ice blue Daytona, RG Skydweller...who knows.

I take back my comment about making this thread a sticky.

Folks don't read or want to understand Rolex would not release an identical watch in both White Gold and Stainless Steele. Ok.

The threads will go on. Sol let it be written. So let it be done. :-/
