I didn't like it at first either, but it grows on you. Of course I'm a vintage guy though.

I don't really notice it any more, except for when dust gets around it.

I do not like dates nor the cyclops. With that being said, if you need the date -- you can always have the cyclops removed. Or buy an extra crystal so you have the original just in case.

Yes, it will grow on you. That doesn't mean you'll like it, but you will get used to it.
I prefer no cyclops and even went so far as to remove it from a 16610. It bugged me, distorting the view, and obscuring portions of the dial. I obsessed over this. It bothered me. Then I bought a 16610LV with cyclops and learned to like the darned thing. If you think too much about the cyclops, it's a distraction. When you stop thinking about it and just wear the watch, you realize it magnifies the date nicely. I still prefer no cyclops, but it's not a big deal and you'll very likely get used to it. At least that's my prediction ;-) |

I agree it is classic Rolex. A bit foolish? Yeah but so is putting the engine in the arse of a German sports car. Classics rock!

I like it just fine. Yes, there are dates around you on every device and computer, but that doesn't mean the cyclops isn't useful. I am a business owner and do paper work rail. The date is a great feature for me.
You will get use to it without qualm. |

I don't love the cyclops but I've learned to live with it and I don't hate it. Ever since I got my GMTII I've learned to not worry about it.

Love the cyclops...always rooted for him in those old Jason & The Golden Fleece sword & sandal films.

I've never been a fan, but in recent years I've noticed that it keeps me from squinting when I need to look at the date. Being old blows.

If you don't like cyclops then perhaps an Omega is worth considering?

i have had a date feature on watches for years. despite that I don't rely upon it. given that I was happy to save money on the sub c with no date. of course, most of the sport watches have the date feature with no option for none. I'm fine with a date when I have no choice but I don't use it much.

I like the sub without the date when I need the date I look at my phone...I'm always rotating the watches so I never even bother setting the date anymore

The cyclops are a signature Rolex. It's like saying "I want a Ferrari, but will I get used to red?"
To me it adds to the tool watch that the Rolex is supposed to be. It is a useful feature to view the date easier. Rolexes are made to be kept for life and you will appreciate the feature when you get older and start using the watch for its intent purpose. If you don't like the look, I understand that as well.

Is this a thread talking about that new member from Florida who's got one eye? If so this isn't very nice.

Of course you could just get Rolex watches than do not need that thing sticking up from the crystal, unbalanced on one side like a wart

Not a fan - never have been and never will be. Just like the He valve on the Omegas (aka the wart). Both bug me enough that I avoid watches with them.
Someone said it earlier, if you don't like something about a watch, that feeling is unlikely to go away with time.

I wasn't sure about the cyclops either. I thought I'd hate it. So, as a test run, I've got myself an Invicta 8926. I quickly found out that I can perfectly live with the cyclops, so a few months later I've got myself a Sub-C Date. Never looked back, still lovin' the cyclops
