Contact Werner (greatgatsby) or Emmanuele (DrB) on VRF. I've seen them offer NOS bezels for 5513s recently. They're great to deal with and you will be getting authentic parts.

Nice find.

At first I wasn't too sure about it but now... Wow, great work mate. It's totally worth it.
The case looks ok to me, it's been polished but still have the shape there. You should really keep the hands, dial and the domed glass as they came. Together with the case, it's the value of your watch.

Love the thought about documenting the process, totally!

Thanks! Before I purchased it I got a pre purchase inspection on it to provide valuation and confirm authenticity!

Hey guys I'm having a hard time finding an oem bezel that will work with the 5513 thinking about using the spring and bezel from this kit and sourcing a vintage insert...

Do you guys think this will fit and work for my restoration?

Post a WTB over at VRF, better to do it right from the start in stead of getting aftermarket bits as a standby...

Crown and tube and bezel set .....

Are you watching VRF's market page ?

A twin-lock crown and tube set (NIB) popped up on there yesterday. Correct for your 1967 Sub me-thinks ...

http://www.network54.com/Forum/20767...tory+Packaging

.... and the bezel set you need was available a few days earlier ...

If those items have sold, at least the posts will give you an idea on current prices.

And you asked about the trip-lock upgrade. I only see that as sensible and for me it would never detract from a 5513's value

you're correct: the RSC usually replaces the entire crown assembly, as it is a high wear area.

::UPDATE::
So based on some of the recommendations from this forum and as well as a few others I reached out to the guys over at ABC watchwerks in Downtown Los Angeles... I just moved out of Downtown LA a few months back after living in DTLA for 5 years as my wife and I had a son back in December. Funny enough my old loft is 2 blocks south of the ABC location and I never knew they existed until I started seeking recommendations from forum members.

I met with Alex and Beau and brought in my 67' 5513. We discussed the work that would need to be done. Alex and Beau are total watch dudes and digg on all things cool. Very personable and extremely smart guys when it comes to the history of Rolex. I want to build a relationship with someone as I don't plan on this being the last vintage timepiece I acquire let alone my last Rolex and after meeting with the guys at ABC I trust that they are the right fit for my 5513 restoration and emerging passion for vintage watches.

My plan is to document all of the restoration and also have one of my friends who is a very well known indie film maker document some of the restoration and heritage of this 5513. We plan on doing a short film about the uniqueness and legacy that rolex and the 5513 carries with it among other things related to vintage heirloom collecting of things, in addition to the story of my acquisition and the process of breathing life back into something worthwhile and special.

As mentioned in previous threads I am very drawn into the mojo and vibe that these kind of heirloom things possess... Wether it be vintage guitars... Air cooled Porsche 911's or vintage leather jackets this hobby and sort of thing fits into a very specific vein of individual being and lifestyle that I'm sure you all love and appreciate!

While I was at the shop, Alex fitted a twin lock crown and placed an era correct bezel on the 5513 for reference... See pic below! More to come as this project gets underway and as the fine gents at ABC start the restoration!

Out of curiosity, did they get the old tube out without causing it any damage?

The watch is looking great, from where it is now the only things needed that would make it perfect are a tritium pearl and a NATO

Very cool, I am looking forward to hearing more about the process and seeing the final product! Are you keeping the hands and stabilizing the lume, or sourcing a better matching hand set? The lume on the second hand is making me nervous...

we haven't taken the tube out yet. The original stem is still in it. Alex placed a twin lock crown on it for reference. Still up for discussion but Alex thinks we may leave the original tube or potentially reuse it...

The crown did fit nicely and dint have much slippage when indigent down... Obviously new seals will be used but after I get next steps from Alex ill post an update with what the plan is for the tube and crown!

The lume rot is decent to heavy... Not sure if I'm going to try and find a vintage set of hands to match the patina or have the guys at ABC restore the hands?! I'll wait to see what the guys at ABCwatchwerks come back with relating to next steps on the hands.

Great pick-up and story. I'm sure you'll love it when the restoration is all and done. That insert you sourced is a true gem in condition, WOW :D

Yes the Lume could very well be original.
I have a 68 meters first Sub, and the lume is very light-creamy
in colour.

Interestingly, I was at a watch dealer a few months ago, and he
noticed the Sub on my wrist. At first (before he got the watch in his
hand) he thought the watch had been re-lumed. However after
close inspection he came to the conclusion that it was original.

I actually knew this before he told me, as I know the history
of my Sub from the day it was purchased.

Great project, keep us up-dated on progress.

That watch is the rat-rod find that most of us obsess about. If you break it down, the case is worth $1500, movement $500, hands $300. The dial is worth in the $200-1000 range if it's original. It's worth cleaning and servicing. Crown and tube. Then be patient to find a nice bez and insert. I had a hi made bez and insert and it looks like dung. Anything u spend on those parts is a guaranteed great investment. Enjoy your score bro.
