I'm giving my eldest son my cGMT for his 21st later this year.

It's four or five years old but I've probably only wornit for 6 or 8 weeks in all that time, so ignoring the hairlines/cosmetic side of it chaps, would you get it serviced before giving it to him??

Spuds, I would, unless you want him to shoulder the burden of a $650 - $800 service before he gets established into a decent career.

My Rolex booklet states to get my SubC serviced "periodically." So not even the manufacturer can give an exact time frame.

would like to see this.

Both of my watches are from 2006 or so. I serviced both when I bought them over the past 2 years. From this point on I will service them every 7 years or so since I wear them every other week.

My dad s datejust is about 16 years, his one and only, he wore it everyday at least 8hours a day. Mines would take much longer time since i wear my rolex watchs average two or three times a month.

Only when necessary

I have Rolex since 1985 and had it serviced last time by Rolex in 1995 for $339 it worked perfectly well until just recently, last 2-3 months, when it started to loose time, first minutes and then hours.. I knew it was time to get it serviced, called De Vons jeweler who is the only Rolex certified shop in my area and was told the cost would be between $650-900. It is a lot of money but i love my Rolex, it is my watch and my bracelet, so i do not mind spending so much for service. I care for my car the same way.

When it quits running, or it keeps horrid time. Thank God I've never had any of those issues

My AD actually told me to get my new Sub serviced when it stops, i.e. when it quits for some reason. I will get it pressure tested every couple of years as it's going to be diving a lot, but otherwise a lot of people over the years have said the same thing. The logic is when they service it they'll be replacing a lot of parts anyway and making it new again, so the expense of fixing something that wore out won't really hurt the bottom line. It's a tough call-do what makes you comfortable.

My oldest watch is only about 20 months old so all going well I am still a few years away yet. When I bought it they recommended 5 to 7 years so I think I may get it done at the 7/8 year mark. I would probably push it a little bit past the recommended but maybe only by a year or two. Then again, If it is running perfectly come the time, I may just keep on wearing it.

My 1986 Explorer II was serviced by Rolex Canada this past January and I not plant on another servicing for at least the next five years.

My Cartiers would stop working in about 3 years and need servicing. I had a 74 DJ that lasted 10 years before slowing down enough to need initial servicing. Rolexes are tanks!

With 11 automatic watches I would say every 15-20 years. In my case it can take 1 1/2 month until I get to use X watch again.

Full service at around the 7 year mark, with pressure tests annually.

I ask my trustworthy independent watchmaker to check it out and basically he decides. He is the pro.

My first Rolex, a lowly Air King (1981), was worn every day and night for 31 years. It was serviced twice. The last time in 2010 when it was 29 years old. It still looks brand new from that service and it was retired in in 2012 when I bought my my new TT Bluesy. Rolex did the service and it was returned to me like a BNIB watch. The cost was slightly more than $1,400.00 at that time. I must add, the longer you wait for service, the more expensive it becomes. My service intervals were approximately once every 15 years.

I went 14 years with my Air King. I only sent it in for service so it could be polished.
