The Sub is most people's default choice for a first Rolex, and that's not bad, but for me, I'd go with the Explorer. It is the most versatile of the three you're considering, it is discreet, durable and simple. This Explorer covers more range on the Sport to Casual to Dress watch continuum than any model in the line. A new 39mm comes with an improved movement and that new bracelet and clasp. None of the others would be a bad choice, this would be a great choice.

For me, the Daytona, then the sub (date), then explorer 1.
But you really need to go to an AD to try it on! Its impossible to tell just looking at pictures or comments. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

For simple usability, readability , stealth and style I would go with an Exp 1, I personally prefer the 36mm, but appreciate the technology of the current generation 39mm. The Daytona is to busy for me and I don't need the chrono function. I could see a Sub date or ND for a more substantial look and poss. Additional usability with a date.
