In talking to my AD, I think the Rolex concept is to keep up the idea that Daytonas are scarce and highly desirable. That is why they keep many of them "in the back." If you know what one is, you ask and they bring it out, explaining how hard to get they are. Good marketing.

Daytonas are plentiful in HK here - it's like every AD has one in stock and my preowned dealer has at least 3 in stock

My AD says that in the UK the white face Daytona is much more sought after. I don't know why, black all the way.

Who says Daytonas are hard to find?

I talked to several AD in HK. SS black is still hard to find, but SS white, they will make up some excuses saying we might just have one, but need to double check is it on hold... And say, if you pay right now, they can probably sell it to you...

The reason black is more sought after in Asia is because 'white Rolex' means wasting your effort or effort not being appreciated... So it doesn't sound good.

But I still got the white one, most sports Rolex are black, and white would make the Daytona standout from other Rolex.

Yea a guy at one of my AD in my area said they were extremely rare but managed to always have a few in stock. I agree that the Dayton's are more coveted in Asia and my uncle says they are rare there because it's always bought the moment it arrives at the dealer

I think its true that Daytona is a nice and favorite model but not that it is rare like what the ADs try to make it so.

I went to 2 ADs in Kuala Lumpur asking for a Daytona, one says they have no more in stock, asking them when new stocks will arrive, they say every 1st of the month, while it was the 6th of July. So okay that was quick sell out ...

To the second AD, they made me wait for a while then brought out both a black and a white dial, saying because it is so much sought after they have to keep it inside ...? It does not much much sense to me the difference between showing them out and keeping them in the box but really that was a good marketing and sales tip.

I ended up buying my white dial 116520 and this is the pic.

Btw, the black dial is much more coveted as some other resellers should always be able to sell you with a premium to the retail price. I myself prefer white dial, and also dont see a reason to pay a premium.

White zenith is gorgeous! Love the black circles around the subdials.
