Reminds me of the cannibal that came home late for dinner and got the cold shoulder.

Once while visiting Alaska I had Black Bear that was slow cooked like a pot roast with potatoes and carrots. It was great and I didn't know what it was until I was done.
I'm good for a hamburger anytime, but not much of a steak fan. |

Shark is exotic?
It's pretty much the staple in every fish and chip shop around here. Squids pretty normal as well. Zebra, Warthog, Wildebeest, African Buffalo, Kudu, Red Deer, Kangaroo, Emu, Ostrich, Crocodile, Crickets, Rabbit, Shark, Sea Urchin. Probably some Ive forgotten. |

Haven't eaten meat for 25yrs or more but have no moral objection in general to people eating whatever strange food they like. Of course endangered animals is a no no.
Strangest things eaten in front of me is balot / balut in the Philippines. I guess that would count as meat to most. |

By accident, had dog (kay-goggi) and fried monkey brains (forgot the name), but I got sick once the cook at the festival told me what I ate.

Exotic meat isn't so exotic in other areas..
Living in Alaska for a decade; Moose, Bear, and Reindeer (caribou) were pretty common fare. Being raised out West; Rattlesnake, Elk, and Bison are pretty regular as is Deer and Rabbit. Down South I've had Squirrel and Alligator. but nothing beats a good old fashioned rib-eye..

From the Simpsons . . . .
Lisa: I’m going to become a vegetarian. Homer: Does that mean you’re never going to eat pork chops again? Lisa: Yes. Homer: Bacon? Lisa: Yes Dad. Homer: Ham? Lisa: Dad all those meats come from the same animal. Homer: Right Lisa, some wonderful, magical animal!

Weirdest thing I've eaten were some small live Japanese fish that you had to drown in vinegar before eating.

There's a japanese restaurant nearby where they serve "fugu" fish. Always tempted to try but I heard it has to be a pro chef to prep this dish or else.... RIP.

Venison, Elk, Bison, Kangaroo and American gator. The gator was a bit greasy, although it was fried. Good though. The Kangaroo was about the same consistency, although much cleaner. The elk and bison are comparable to sirloin except much leaner and more flavorful. I would love to try the Japanese Fugu or blowfish. Also urchin would be neat.

Elk, hands down. Makes the top Black Angus cuts seem like flank steak in comparison. My late uncle was an expert hunter and fisherman. He and his buddies took pack horses up into the Blue Mountains and everyone always came back with an elk. Really miss him and those steaks. A great guy.

Lions are not currently on the endangered list but could be soon, let's hope eating Lion is just a silly fad, we don't need to encourage a demand that could eventually lead to issues with the wild popultaion.
In 1975 there was an estimated 250,000 lions in Africa, today the continent wide population stands at a mere 25 – 30,000 individuals. http://www.bornfreeusa.org/a9c_lionmeat.php |

How did it taste:)? I had fried tarantulas in Vietnam. And scorpion wine. HK has some pretty weird (by western standards) meat but most are delicacies :)

Alligator, Ostrich, Deer, Caribou, Elk, Bear, Boar, Rabbit, Whole Frog, Snake, Ell and assorted Bugs ( that was just breakfast ) Some of the bugs tasted like a rancid pistachio ,but the worst was the Whole Frog its preparation - let's just say - left a lot to be desired.

I think that if people had to butcher their own animals, they'd eat a lot more fruits and vegetables. For now, i still eat beef, pork, and chicken - but I'm deeply troubled by commercial livestock farming practices. And increasingly, I buy only organic and free range meats. Just because an animal is raised for consumption doesn't mean it's ok to abuse them.

I'm pretty sure I would try most things once, but I just googled balut and there is no way I would eat that. I had never heard of it before now.... If only there was a way to un-see things...
