I have a 2013 Toyota Hilux 2.0 VVTi and two Isuzus...a 2010 KB300 D-Teq and a 2014 KB300-D-Teq double cab (this is my "car") The single cabs do farm duties. We have experience with Toyota since 1975.Have had numerous ones .... no problems what so ever Toyota is tough and last for a very looong time .Isuzu I have found is tough as well with a better ride quality.Longer leaf springs at the rear, the main reason.Isuzus also light on diesel.Better consumption at the pump. My double cab has a chiplogic box and pedal booster.... It moves !! (150kw and 420Nm) and We also have the luxury of very high quality diesel ....50ppm from all and Sasol also now supplies 10ppm diesel.

Toyota is tough.No question !!

PS: I dont own a car anymore, only trucks/pick-ups/bakkies ...whatever you wish to call them

I've a 1995 4x4 xtra cab with 116,400 miles. Bought it new in March '95. Needs some minor cosmetic work, but that's it. A great truck that's never let me down. A real blast to drive in the snow.

Thanks Manny. The color is Cardinal Red You'll have to call State Farm. I hit a light pole and totaled it in early '93. I still say there were big magnets in the front end that pulled me into that pole I replaced it with a '93 in Garnet Red Pearl and put the wheels, tires and other accessories besides the bug deflector on it. Drove that one for 10 years and 120k miles. I think I'm going back to Toyota for me next truck.

I have recently been looking at trading in my 3 series for the tacomba truck. It's funny when you research them on the toyota website they say the starting price is 18k, I have yet to find a dealer who has one in stock for less then 31k.

Granted it would last forever lol but still not worth it to trade my 3 year old 3 series in just yet for it. When the BMW dies I'll jump to toyota =)

I have a 2008 FJ cruiser full-time 4wd with manual transmission and 98,000+ miles. I never have any mechanical problem ever. Just the regular oil change and tire rotation. Man, Toyota's are really tough and durable.

My boss bought a brand new 2014 Chevy Traverse and in the first three months of ownership, he told me he is sending the SUV back for repair because the windows stopped working. I told him to just get a Toyota and be worry free. ;)

That's fantastic My '93 was rusting like no tomorrow when I got,rid of it. Maybe due to the winters where I live.

Chances are you'd really have to call around to find a base model. There aren't too many around.

This post has made me want to watch the Back to the Future. Every teenage boy wanted a lifted Toyota truck after that. We have had many with the Lexus badge, but only camry's on the toyoyo side. We had 2 GX570's and then an LX570 (Lexus land cruiser). Great trucks. LX have us fits with the brakes but would drive thru a wall pulling a house.

Must be salt or something. Mine has some very minor surface rust in a few areas, even where it was scratched to the metal. The undercarriage looks like one with maybe 40K tops; still has the factory muffler. As for finding one on a lot, good luck; they sell themselves. I've a friend who's a car broker. People have come into his lots several times while I was there to inquire how much he wanted for the Toyota 4x4 PU or Land Cruiser (mine) parked out front. He told me that if he had a lot full of Toyota trucks and Land Cruisers like mine, he'd have them all sold at a huge profit in no time and wouldn't even need to list them.

Definitely salt from the winter. I had to replace transmission lines on my 2007 GMC Canyon last year due to corrosion from it. Your right about finding one. I have two friends in the car business at different locations and they say the same thing. Pre owned ones don't last long.

Love these things...... I just need toyota to step their game up significantly with the next new taco and I will be all in. With the new GM twins already getting rave reviews and having considerably more refinement, power, and creature comforts, im not sure the "its a toyota so it must be good" thing is going to be enough to pull me in......

You won't find any 1995-2000 trucks around here. They've all been scrapped. http://wheels.blogs.nytimes.com/2008...ype=blogs&_r=0

I remember seeing entire parking lots full of them following the buy - back.
Toyota trucks are known for 2 things - reliability forever and rotting out. Hopefully the new malls have that sorted out.

I bought one of the last N-50 Hilux series made in 1995, so I lucked out. I was unaware of the rust problems on the Tacoma. I bought a new '82 Supra that turned out being a rust bucket.

No doubt. I was faithful to American made cars for some time; owned many. It's sad they can't build a reliable product. The last was an '87 Vette Roadster. I swear, it was one thing after another with that POS. Mr Goodwrench had the dang thing more than I did. My allegiance shifted to Toyota after that debacle.

After my '91 and '93 Toyota trucks I bought a 2003 Sonoma and then a 2007 Canyon. No problems with either and they never let me down. I plowed snow with both trucks too. I bought them because I was able to get the family discount on top of all the other rebates so I couldn't go wrong. It's getting time to move on from the Canyon while I still can get something for it. Eight years old and 53,000 miles and since I don't get the family discount anymore I'm considering going back to Toyota. The two GM's I've owned served me well

If I were going full size I'd go with either a Tundra or Ford. The new GMC and Chevy trucks are nice but I can't get over the squared off wheel wells over round tires.

I guess I will say my experience is limited to one vehicle. We had a 2003 suburban. Biggest piece of dung I've ever had. Always had something wrong. The final straw was when I opened up the driver door after parking and a big plastic trim piece just fell of the side of the seat. It was gone about two weeks later.

I've had good luck with two ford trucks and I love my Toyota.

I bought my second 4Runner, a 2008 V6 4WD Sport Edition in November of 2007. Only 70k miles on it now. Never had any problems, still has original brake pads, but had to put new tires on at about 50k miles. Can't beat it whether it's hauling bikes, 4-wheeling to the fishing hole, exploring back roads, or just cruising on vacation. Cost about $30k when new and Carmax offered me $19k for it last year, after 6 years and 60000 miles of use (but I decided to keep it).

Love my 2006 Toyota 4 Runner. V8, 4 wheel drive. Great vehicle! I plan on driving mine as long as possible...

I bought it just before my daughter was born. I wanted a good family car, but one which could handle any environment, particularly in an emergency. Living in Southern California, with wildfires and the threat of earthquakes, such a car could be a critically valuable asset.

3rd 4 runner and the build quality is far more superior then my escalade was.... Within a year my interior was falling apart on my Cadillac. Tried to buy AMERICAN but up to recently not up to par my personal opinion.

I hear you. My '99 Land Cruiser has 43,400 and is near cherry. It runs like a top and I never tire of driving it. I can honestly say that I wouldn't trade it for anything GM is currently putting out, including the Corvette. Been there, done that. What a nightmare that "car" was.

For the most part I do agree with all the Toyota love in this thread but I will tell that I did once have an awful experience with a Toyota SUV.
It was a 1988 Toyota 4runner (V6, 5 speed) - the one with the removable roof and roll bar. I bought it used but it was in great condition. Problem was it didn't run very well. - especially in wet weather. Naturally I tried all the fixes but to no avail. Eventually it had an accident, started to rot out and I drove it a few more years before selling it off cheap. It's too bad. It had been gorgeous and I really wanted to like it. Must have been the only bad one made that year.

It looked similar to this except alloy wheels and mine was grey without the stripes.

Zero issues.
Sweet, I had a 91 FJ80 and ran it to 220k without so much as a hiccup (other than getting like 10mpg). Sold it to a friend and he put it into a tree, otherwise I bet it'd still be kicking today.
