Sure Tom. Missed the "in the near future" I can see Lange having far higher demand. Probably why my idea did not came out right.
IMHO I can see Lange become more collectible than what they are now. It is a matter of time before more and more watch aficionados understand the quality and work that it is put in a Lange watch. I believe it was Philippe Dufour in a Hodinkee video who owned a Lange Datograph and said in a video he admired that particular watch and what Lange is achieving. Just an example of how experts view Lange. This was what made me look into the brand and I am sure more will follow. BTW. The link you posted was great. Very good analysis on both pieces. Thanks! |

I'm going to have to go with the ALS in this match-up. I just think the ALS is more aesthetically pleasing - in part because of the Arabic numerals. Along those same lines, I just don't think stick hour markers work for this complication.
Having weighed in, however, I'd love to be in the enviable position of having to make this choice. |

Two of my favorites... I'd personally go with the Patek though. A little cleaner dial and historically a great piece to own.

To this point the poll results show that the Lange is holding its own, IMO. Given the lean towards Patek on this forum and for that matter the much larger community of patek owners overall, it seems as though there is considerable admiration for the underdog as well .

Patek 100%. Need a microscope, Cannot see the info inside the Lange registers a la their DATO perpetual. Lower power reserve. No LUME. Patek is CLEAN and uncluttered.

Patek, but for me to give it a 100% rating rather than 95%, I would want the subsidiary dials at 3pm and 9pm rather than 4pm and 8pm, and rectangular pushers, plus a tachymeter scale. I am a harsh critic I realise but at the price I would need it to be perfect for me in all respects.

My vote goes to the 5204P, I prefer the slightly cleaner dial, stick markers that give it sort of a sporty look and the the 'upside down' moonphase indicator is to die for

I think the Lange is the better looking of the two, based on those photos, but if it were my money, I'd go for the Patek.
This of course is pure fantasy, unless there are some more pleasant surprises in my future.

I love most everything about the PP except the mushroom cap pushers. I've never been a fan of them.

The Patek. It's easier to read. I'm not big on looking at secondary dials to figure out what month it is. Patek is clean, simple and perfect. However, the Lange is a real beauty!

As much as I like Lange, I prefer the dial features and the general case shape of the Patek. That being said, the movement display of the Lange wins hands down.

I love Lange but, I would go Patek on this one.
Have to say that Patek Price is ludicrous !!! But Patek movement is more sophisticated , has 496 components vs 631 components for Lange. Regards

Actually, comparing the two movements, I think the Lange is much better proportioned for the case size than the Patek in this case. I much prefer a movement that fills the view in the sapphire case back, which the 1815 does nicely. Another point that I intentionally left out of the original comparison is the price. Given the fact that the 5204 lists for well over $100k more than the Lange, the 1815 Rattropante Perpetual offers considerable bang for the buck in comparison. |

I guess it depends from what angle you see it. When I wrote that statement of sophistication, I was going with the Haute Horologerie premise that less is better. But it's also true that one of Patek biggest issues is their proportion to case discrepancies is not adequate. And yes the price is like I said ludicrous ! No question Lange has better bang for the buck there Cheers ! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

No fair, your photos are MUCH better than mine.
I wouldn't toss either of these away, they're each amazing in their own ways. |

I prefer ALS. The mvmt looks nicer, the watch has more wrist presence.

They are indeed ! Quote:
A big reason for my Patek vote was because the fear of owing something so expensive and not having the Re-sale that Patek has (like stated in your thread). But Lange dials are to die for, and yes it has more wrist presence. A point in Patek favor is that it has luminous material that Lange lacks. Lange has a more realistic price, no doubt . So each has strong points, I am glad that I don't have to decide. Lol ! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

If factor in resale, then PP. Purely looks and features, the ALS. But I heard ALS resale has improved a lot in recent years. |

Another thing to mention is that resale might be different at this level. Obviously I don't have any experience on that at this level. Maybe it's easier to find a buyer for the Lange? Don't know? Or maybe proportionally the lost is bigger in Lange but in numbers alone it might favor Lange. Looks alone ALS look more modern and sleek, Patek looks more old fashioned but it carries the Classic Patek look that it has it's own attractiveness and value. Funny that for me ALS means Lange and for the world all they are thinking is the ALS bucket challenge ! Lol Cheers !! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
