And the winner is…BNIB 5980 blue dial.
After going back and forth on 5990 or 5980, the 5980 won out. It won for two simple reasons--Patek blue dial and date in window. Martinr and Chaos your recent posts just pushed me over the edge—just stunning photos of a perfect dress up or down Patek. I never thought I would be so excited to receive a watch that is discontinued. I went back and forth on dial color, but in the end it was a no brainer (slate dial was a top contender as well and looks VERY sharp). The 5980 white dial, albeit sporty, just didn’t have the depth in the dial color that I was looking for in a stainless. Since my two regular Patek AD’s had long sold their last 5980’s, I had to start calling around Patek AD’s across the US—not fun to say the least. No relationship, 1000 questions, have to promise to name your next born after them, etc…no thanks. However, thanks to one our forum members here (you know who you are and huge kudos), was kind enough to point me in the right direction of an AD that had one in stock. I only found only 4 BNIB blue dials (in my 55+ calls)—limited to say the least. Ironically almost every dealer had a white dial 5980 still in stock. That spoke volumes as to what this watch will be like on the secondary market in the future—not that I’m selling. Headed to meetings ALL day today and client dinner after, but will get more shots up later tonight and tomorrow morning. Now I need it sized—darn pins! Thanks again guys for the feedback, I just love it. It’s my ideal stainless Patek Last edited by HL65; 27 August 2014 at 05:36 AM.. |
