Thanks everyone! Here is an update...Ok I went to a different dealer here in Chicago and went through a comparison session. I tried on the Green Submariner, a black GMT II, and black Explorer II. And of course I like them all! The Explorer is nice but I don't there is something about it I can't quite figure out. Not sure if it is the bezel or what. They didn't have the BLNR in stock, however I have seen that before at the Rolex company store in Michigan Ave. Anyway I tried on the green submariner and black GMT II and after I while I came to the conclusion I like them both! HAHAHA! I may have to go back to the Michigan Ave store and try on the BLNR in person so that I can make my final decision. So at least it is now narrowed down to the green Submariner and the GMTs. Wait, sounds like I am back at square 1! HAHAAHA! I should just buy both! Can't do that. Anyway, the goal is to have something on my wrist tomorrow evening. Ugh more thinking to do!

Don't rush it. Just let it come to you. The anticipation is the best part and if you buy in haste before you really know what you want, you'll regret it.

To OP: It doesn't matter if you won't be diving, traveling around the world, or climbing mountains anytime soon. Just get the watch that you like and forget what anyone else thinks.

Buy what you like, not what others have.
You dont need to be a diver to wear a diver, you dont need to be a pilot or traveler to wear a GMT.

The BLNR is a great option. The black/blue dial makes the most sense for day/night of any of the bi-colored GMT bezels and is a bit understated, which I really like. When I want a bright colorful watch on the wrist for fun, I feel better when it's something like a Seiko Orange Monster so it doesn't draw the attention of the wrong crowd.

Welcome. If you worry about buying a watch that someone else has, you are narrowing down the field.

Get what appeals to you. Your friend will see it as a compliment if you buy one similar to his.

There are millions of Rolex out there and you'll run into someone who has your watch sometime - but that's a good thing.

My advice to you would be to buy what you like, regardless if it's common and regardless of what your friends think. You'll be happiest that way IMO.

BLNR is the THE hot watch right now. Don't underestimate some of Rolex's other models. Ordinarily my first recommendation for someone starting out is a Datejust. Since you're looking for something a tad sportier, I would consider the Explorer I or II or maybe a no-date Submariner.

UPDATE: Well I broke down and purchased a watch this afternoon after work. It was quite the experience. The sales lady had a glass (Rolex glass) and a bottle all ready for me cause she new I would be nervous. She was actually surprised at my decision since I originally came in a couple of weeks ago to purchase the Green Submariner. I ended up taking home.....(drum roll).... the BLNR! I am quite happy with the purchase and so far no buyers remorse. Hahaha. thanks everyone for your input and guidance! No I just want to look at it all night!

Keep in mind the blue dial is a Yacht-Master. Never mind, didn't see that you bought the BLNR. Congrats!

Congrats on the new watch. I have the blnr also and love it. You made a good choice. You'll get the green sub eventually too. I'm pretty sure that it will be my next piece. I say pretty sure because in this crazy world you never know what can happen. You can go in for one and come out with something completely different. Wear in good health and enjoy it

Haha! Good one Tom. That was what a manager at work told me, why wear a Yachtmaster when you dont have a Yacht..

To the OP, get what you like and ignore what others think. At the end of the day, you will be the one paying for it and wearing the watch.
