Plotting The Next Watch Attack
So I had a chat with myself about watches. Everybody does that, right?
I have two Rolexes, and wear only one. I came to a realization: I won't wear my Explorer II anywhere that I would not wear my Daytona. So despite all of the excuses I have made for how perfect the Explorer II is (it really is a fantastic watch), I have decided to part with it. And since the only Rolex I envision wearing every day is a Daytona, I have decided not to add another Rolex. But the draw of the hunt is too great. This can only mean one thing: upgrade! During my chat with myself, I also realized asking for your valued opinions will only go so far. I must decide for myself which model to get. However, I think a white gold Daytona is in the top of the running. Panda? Black? Slate? I'm not fond of yellow gold at the moment, and as beautiful as Everose is, it washes out with my skin tone. The other contender is a Patek Philippe Aquanaut, but I haven't tried one on yet. A Nautilis may be another choice. I owned one and was terrified of scratches. I'm not mesmerized by the "magical" blue dial like most. I have tried on the white dial Nautilus, and found it to be only slightly less hideous in person (the fact there are plenty available in white may suggest others agree). With a budget around $20-$25k, there aren't many others I'd consider (no other Rolex, no AP/VC/JLC/IWC/ALS). I might distract myself with another Patek (Calatrava? Gondolo?). Comments are welcome, even "save up for a (Platona/rose gold Aquanaut-slash-Nautilus)" or the ever-witty "first world problem..." :) |
