I feel like I was in a similar boat. Nothing in the rolex line really sang to me. I was more of a white dial, dress watch sort of guy, of which Rolex does not really satisfy. I noticed you also seem to prefer the white dials.

I really think you should kinda mull around for a while. I know when I was first shopping for a Rolex, I wasn't a fan of like the diver bezels which dominate a large portion of the rolex line. But over time, I am shocked how much my taste has changed. I find myself really appreciating the sub which I never thought I'd like (as blasphemous as that might sound). Or if you want something out of the ordinary, I think the Cellini line or a Prince would fit the bill.

I like the idea of getting the Daytona for your wife (to share at times when the urge strikes).
You have a beautiful collection by the way!

Please Recommend a First Rolex for me...

The Daytonas are looking really attractive. I am liking the 116515, unique brown dial and rose gold on a leather strap sings out.
Does anyone have a wrist shot?

+1 I love this daytona. It's gorgeous in person. I tried it on and took a pic at local AD. I can post tonight for you, Eddie.

Also, check out these ebay listings for some nice pics.

http://www.ebay.com/itm/171210400157...#ht_6537wt_767

http://www.ebay.com/itm/151412101970...%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

http://www.ebay.com/itm/201175977099...ht_7905wt_1091

I tried on a few daytonas in WG and RG, but did not like them at all. Primarily for it's smaller size compared to my SubDateC and also because the bezel was difficult to read. The guy went to the backroom and brought out the 515 and I could easily read the bezel from across the counter and being in the clear plastic coffin. I wasn't sure about the gator strap, but as an entire package the watch is gorgeous. I was so taken aback by it that I've decided to get it after the Sub. Oh, and it did not look small on my wrist as the other daytonas did. It was perfect. Maybe the only thing I'd change would be to make the black arabic numerals slightly smaller and to polish the gator straps.

No, I wish! I bought the Sub recently, so have to wait for this one. 2015 Christmas present to myself.

I wish I took another pic zoomed out more. Took it with a iphone 4S, so it doesn't quite capture the rose gold. Trust me, it is gorgeous. It stands out for sure, hard not to notice this watch. You can't wear it to the grocery store like you can the Sub, for example. haha

Really love this watch!
But looks like I'm pulling the trigger on a 116505 for my wife first...

I'm wondering if I can steal this watch from her and wear it. Is this model considered unisex?

My reply was gonna be - what the hell are you thinking! as I read that as 116505 for my first wife.

It's a great choice actually as ofc you can wear it too.

Daytona is a men's watch, but that doesn't stop women from wearing them. Also one could argue that very few Daytona models might be more feminine in nature than others.

Personally, I do like the watch you have pictured above, however with the black dial. Too much RG for my taste. Of course all of this is subjective and depends on what catches your eye the most.

I do not see why you wouldn't be able to wear this watch as well if you do indeed buy it for her.

I would suggests a Day/Date is a classic, and it does not have a sporty look of the Sub GMT etc is Rolex at its best!

Lovely collection! If it has to be Rolex, I'd go vintage Daytona or for modern a platinum Day-Date or Daytona

Since your interest is in notable movements and seems to eschew cookie-cutter design you'll need to go back into Rolex history. Take a look at the triple-calender moon phase il Padellone. And if you're looking for a chronograph, with your tastes please resist the inevitable calls for a Valjoux-movement Daytona--they're much more common than their overblown reputation (and pricing) suggests, even with the PN dial cosmetic upgrade. Have a look instead at the pre-Daytona chronos, the 6238, or even the triple-calender 6236 Killy chrono.

What he said...Rolex had some significant contributions and as you collect with purpose i would look at those markers and find something there. Besides the proposition above, i'm intrigued by the advancements in the diving arena that Comex instigated. But looking at you collection they might be a bit too large and cumbersome. On the other hand, i find a DayDate plat a very wearable and modern watch, that has that sparkle, without being a "in your face Rolex". Or maybe Rolex just isn't in your orbit and next stop is Patek...

If your not into rolex don't try to force it. Try on as many as you can and if nothing sings to you then move on to a different brand
