Whatever you decide, I would keep the particulars of this situation private. Although independent watchmakers with Rolex parts accounts do seem to be a little more lenient about modifying watches or working on watches with aftermarket parts, I have always heard that technically, they are supposed to adhere to the same policies as RSC.

That sucks that you had to find out that the Rolex that your mother passed down to your wife had incorrect parts on it. It does not make the watch any less sentimental or special to you or your family. I am glad that you found someone to service your wife's watch and get it up and running correctly again. My wife has a k serial ladies 26mm date that I bought pre owned. And that was my fear, so I think I will choose to stay with my well qualified watchmaker at my AD.

Rik called me today to confirm receipt and give me the estimate for my wife's 6916. What a nice guy - he thoroughly explained what he would do, and seemed almost apologetic about Rolex's policy on watches with non-standard replacement parts. Back in two-three weeks - stay tuned!
