I love this idea, and so far I've seen some great examples. Mine is 1980, and I've been trying to find a model from that year. My question is if there are any from '80 that are more desirable? I've been looking at subs and GMT.

I've seen a few pieces from 1973 for sale here on TRF and a few other places. Look for something in the 3.8 to 4 million serial number range for the best estimated 1973 Rolex. Hope that helps, cheers!

I believe 1980 was the transitional year for rolex, as it started to using sapphire crystal on some of its watches. I'm sure there r many to choose from. My personal favorite would be 18k yg date sub. The good thing about your birth year is that you can find pristine condition watch with b&p at a relatively good price. Good luck with your search. Maybe it's just me but birth year watch is kind of "special".

That's good news. I will do a bit of homework and make sure I know what to look for before I make any final decisions. This could be a cheaper alternative for me to add a solid gold piece, opposed to buying brand new. Save me a boatload! 😀

Here is my beloved birth year GMT Fat Lady from 1984, with it's original insert that's slightly faded in the red part.

Since it was originally introduced the same year I was, I consider this my birth year watch.

Hahaha - yes. Fortunately it puts us in the sweet spot for Vintage that doesn't break the bank. 10 years older would be tough.

Pearl swap on the BY 7016 that just came in yesterday
