I'm sorry but I don't believe in dressing down to buy a car and would never take off my Rolex to negotiate the price. I don't feel the brand of watch your wearing has anything to do with the price a dealer is willing to come down to, and if it does then I'm taking my business elsewhere.

I never considered taking off my watch to negotiate a price of a car..... any more tips for buying a new car ?????

I need some quick refresher course before I walk into the dealership. (I always dread going to the dealer, because they make you wait longer than Kaiser Permanente at the dealership, just to wear you down, so that in the end you'll practically sign away your house saying "Please, just let me get out of here, I'll do anything.")

Any advice appreciated. (Taking off the ROLEX is a good start)

I tried quite a bit, KBB, Dealers invoice, Costco. I got on line and threw information out to "my ride.com" they got so many dealers to give me quotes it was great! I got on line and priced every accessory at a dealership that I could find within 50 miles and got the lowest price on every accessory, and got my local dealer to match the price on the lowest quote than match the lowest quote on the accessory's. Over all I saved 7k off the sticker and accessories. Not an expensive car, Honda Pilot.

As far as taking off the watch, I remember a great friend of mine (Cardiologist) that owned many homes and apartment buildings. He drove an old Acura and said that if he were to buy a big fancy car that his renters would skip on his rent. When he first bought his car that happened to him time and time again. His also took off his watch before collecting from a late renter. I took heed to that. Sales are sales, the less they come down the more they make. If they think you have money, they think you will just say yes to whatever they deal out. My sale did take three hours! But it was worth it.

If you don't want to put up with the usual BS at a dealership, buy a Lexus,
best car I have ever owned, and I love my dealer, which I have never said about any car dealer ever. There really is a reason why Lexus is tops in customer satisfaction.

And a few more bests:

Rolex/Jeager LeCoultre = Best made watches under $10,000. Absolutely the most able to take abuse, and still work, both brands apply.
Lexus = Best mass produced luxury car for the money.
Apple = Best computer and OS, period. Nothing else even close.
Chinese or Thai girlfriends/wives= Once you date one for a while, you will never go back, EVER. Trust me on this one.
Ambien CR= When you absolutely, positively, need to go to sleep.
Best BBQ= South Carolina with the mustard based sauce, I have dreams about the stuff!

My personal "Bests" list, but you know I'm right.

I'm still the same person. I wear the watch...the watch doesn't wear me.

True, after the first couple scratches I said forget it! I wear it and hardly take it off. What I meant was that in my circle of family and activities, I tend to cover it up with my sleeves, to prevent judgment, like I've seen happen to my parents and friends that have nice things.

wearing a rolex changed my dressing style..
about 10+ years ago, i used to go to office 90% in short sleeves shirts or T-shirts.
after buying the DD YG, whenever i am wearing it, i always wear long sleeves shirts only as it can protect the watch to some extend but more important is that i will not seem to be flashing it unnecessarily.
also i can keep it covered under the long sleeves when i am in 'not too safe' places.

I'll admit I do try to keep my Rolex under wraps depending on who I'm around. I don't take it off but I make a point of keeping it low key. I come from a very humble background and my family is still there so I am very conscious of it when I am around them.

Yep, made me a happier person.

Don't much care about the feelings of others regarding what is on my wrist. That is their issue to fix.

I was going to say no, but Miss Jody just caught me on the Rolex Forum again. She said, "yes it has changed your behavior -- you are spending too much time on that darn forum and me". She has a point, but hanging out here is fun.

Absolutely.

I no longer wear rough fabrics or sleeves that are too tight. Ideally, I like to wear T-shirts and just make sure that I never bang my watch against anything.

I'm neurotic.

In one simple answer, yes.

Just how they have changed my behavior....why I can go on and on and on talking about that...

O.K. just hand your watches over to me and then you can redeem yourself as a nice guy, at least in my eyes anyway

I will admit that wearing a Rolex has boosted my confidence a bit because it represents a fruit of my labor. It's not the same as driving a Ferrari or anything, but it does make me proud to think that I've arrived at a place where I can afford something this nice.

I mentioned in an earlier post about how I've discovered that most people don't even notice my Daytona. This is either because I'm too good looking to notice it : or because it's not as immediately recognizable as a Sub or DJ. I think this is just fine because I don't wear it to flaunt or show off. I wear it for myself.

In terms of behavior? Not much has changed. I guess I protect my left wrist more.

It has not changed my behavior at all.

I wear mine with a NATO, so not many people give it too much though because it isn't on a bracelet, and if they do notice it is a Rolex, the first question is always "is that real?!"

I don't really take any special measures to hide it from view, or expose it.
