Hi John, I really respect your experience concerning GMTs, but this time I'm not 100 percent with you. IMHO here we have an all correct Maxi from the end 70s (with service 16750 caseback). Please let me explain my point of view: I've seen many many 1675 in the last years and my observation is the following: The dial shown by the thread starter is to find often! and always in the 5 Million serial range. I've NEVER seen it in any other serial range! The dial shown by you (W5) is also to be found in 5 Mio serials, but if've seen many many of these dials in ALL different serial ranges. This, and the fact that this W5 dial is extremely near the typo and allignement of the first matte 16750 dials makes me think 2 things: 1. The W5 dial is a late 70s, beginning 80s matte tritium service dial or 2. The W5 dial and the dial shown by the tread starter plus the W4 dial are the last 3 dials, mounted in he 1675. I'm open for any new ideas and opinions! . . . |

Just because the version is not seen much does not mean it is fake.
Here is one with such dial that was for sale on our forum as a reference: http://www.rolexforums.com/showthrea...highlight=1675 Here are other versions of the Mk5, note the small opening at the bottom on a couple of them.. |

we all know who this is from. i will only say to be very careful. if you do a google search, do some digging on VRF, etc, you will find a lot of people question his watches. there is a reason he is banned from selling on VRF.
tread carefully. |

The entire thing with the laser welding? Well, as long as the parts are all original and authentic, I don't mind TBH. and this particular example is not sold 'untouched' or 'unpolished' anyway.
Still no definitive opinions about the dial? |

OP given there are questions with regards to dial and fellows credentials best to wait for another piece.
Patience is key when buying vintage rolex. Given this watch isn't on the cheaper side either best to let it go. The right one will come along. I'd ask springer personally to source you a 1675! It would be the direction I take. |

Just curious, there's never been a case where he was found selling aftermarket or 'fake' parts, was he?

For those of us who aren't so familiar, could someone share the name of the seller so we avoid getting bitten in the future if anyone wants to buy vintage?

Just out of curiosity, and this is tangently on topic... can anyone produce a non-GMT dial (either Explorer, Daytona, Submariner, SD, Airking, whatever) with the same styling of Rolex Font? I'm talking the same wide O, on any other watch? Nevermind trying to place it somewhere along/in-between the GMT Mark timeline, but rather place the font among any other watches. Just a thought.

I have a 1968 1575 , which had the dial changed to a service dial , about 12 years ago . The work was done by hamilton and Inches , of George St. Edinburgh . I didn't know about retaining original parts on Rolex , I was just happy to have a repair done on my insurance policy . The watch came back looking Brand New ! , AAGGGHHHH ! . If only I had known , what the hell , I was just a crazy 60 years old kid . The point I want to make is that , the C and E of certified do not line up under the C and H of chronometer . Do you think a reputable Rolex AD , who hold a Royal Warrant , would fit an aftermarket dial ? Discuss .

Orochi posted a variation of the mk5 dial in his thread. Is it just me or is the O the same wide variety?

Well, I ended up meeting Ben and buying the watch from him. I truly appreciate all your expertise and help. The watch itself looks a million times better in real life than in the photos.
Just one question, anyone know where I can order a screwdriver to shorten a jubilee bracelet? It has a 50 written behind it. The couple of Rolex ADs I have gone to have a newer screwdriver that's too big. Cheers, Anirudh |

I have a 1979 5mill serial number range 1675 GMT, it's away being serviced at the moment but when it comes back I would be more than happy to photograph its dial and upload here for anyone to compare!
