It's unexpected and a little disconcerting for such an understated watch. I can only imagine what wearing other models will do.
Do Sub/Daytona/GMT etc wearers get this?
my cars yes, watches no

Funny, friends with Subs get noticed all the time; but my Daytona very rarely gets a comment. I think everyone knows what a Sub looks like, but few people know a Daytona is a Rolex. Most times it gets noticed, it's a blackjack / craps dealer in Vegas that makes a comment.

I think that's worth a few more tries. At least it breaks some ice.

The glint of the sun glancing off the green crystal of the GV has caused more comment than the other watches.

Only one person (a friend) has ever commented on a watch I was wearing and that was at least 5 years ago while we were changing planes. Either no one notices what watch I am wearing or they are too polite to comment.

Glad that you said the second sentence in that paragraph... because that was exactly what I'm going to say... people don't look at your wrist because they recognise the brand or the value of the watch on your rest.... people look at your wrist because they're like "WTF? Why is he pushing his wrist like that on my face?! Is he trying to show off his watch?! seriously wtf?!"

You and I and every one of us act differently when we wear something we like. It just gives us some nice ego boost. When wearing watches that we really like... we tend to use our arms differently... and I've noticed my self pushing my wrist in a way that people do peak at my wrist... even if it wasn't the most expensive thing we have.

so yeah, its a problem with you ;p

The only time I was aware of my watch being stared at was on the bus home. Turned out it was a young lady who was also wearing a LVc. I was a bit surprised that she was rocking a Sub as she was half the size of me but she wore it quite well.

Lol. I've never been approached in a bar asking for drinks, but when it happens I'd use the line and report back.

Yeah, I am not a handsome man by any stretch of the imagination. When a woman approaches me in a bar, flirts a little and asks for a drink, I know she is just there for free booze. As soon as the drink is in hand, they are gone. Its happened too many times. Live and learn.

I've occasionally had others wearing a Rolex notice my DJ, but the people who really do are the sales people in jewelry stores and car dealerships...

Besides friends and family, the only ones who have said anything about my watches have been salespeople at jewelry / watch stores.

As for glances, no one really glances except for when I go to a high end steakhouse or luxury goods place (Hermes).

People DO notice. Those saying no one pays attention to their watches because they don't know people notice their watches.
When people don't comment don't mean they don't notice. I check out other peoples watches all the time but I never say anything.

My G-Shocks get more attention than any Rolex I've worn. Most people just see a steel watch, and have no idea what brand it is....which is just fine with me.

This.

I've caught at least half a dozen people glancing at the hulk since I purchased it.

Only one person mentioned anything, and that was to ask if I have a lot of money. I told him "no. I just like trading useslss paper for tangible and enjoyable assets"

Your response wins.

Totally unrelated to watches, but a few months ago I was at a casino bar enjoying a partagas cigar. A younger gentleman comes up to bar and orders a drink and then turns and says to me in a serious tone "you look like you might be rich". I asked him why he thought this, he responds "because you're smoking that cigar". I was forced to inform him that he had just paid double what I paid for my cigar in his one martini. He looked extremely confused.

Me too! My girlfriend said to me the other day "why do you look at women like you haven't seen one in 1000 years" Apparently, I'm doing it wrong.

Stealing Glances...

I was sitting at work the other day and having lunch when out of the corner of my eye, I noticed my coworker, who'd sat down next to me to also have lunch, was looking intently at my wrist. Naturally, (in prideful bliss) I thought he was quietly, jealously, admiring the unparalleled beauty of my world famous Rolex Daytona, but was not saying anything out of politeness, when he blurted out, "Your second hand's not moving," surprised it wasn't the usual, "IS THAT A ROLEX!?" comment, I looked at my watch to check if something was wrong; my Daytona was ticking away as usual and then it dawned on me that he was talking about the chronograph hand. "Your looking at the wrong hand" I replied, and explained to him what a chronograph was and that the second hand was the sub-dial. And then it also dawned on me that the the reason he'd said "your second hand's not moving" so mirthfully was because he thought he'd caught me wearing a cheap knockoff and was rubbing it in. After I showed him the second hand was reliably ticking away, his eyes shot open, and with a look that can only be described as part incredulity, part shock, mixed with a lot of awe, he whispered, "you mean....it's real??!!!" Hahha...absolutely priceless moment. I guess some people still associate Rolex with an unattainable, mythical status. When all they'd really have to do to buy one is diligently save their money. Anyway, thought I'd share. I remembered it as I read this thread because my coworker's expression was priceless. :)

Other than that, I've never noticed anyone pay attention to my watch. It's a good thing I wear it for myself. :)
