You know you have a problem when you have to wait to take a photo of the watch on your wrist, so that the hands move into just the right position, because you are measuring the timekeeping to the second and don't want to have to do that over again by resetting the watch...

I sometime worry that my brain may be corroding or that I am becoming eccentric or whatever.

I bought my first Rolex 15 months ago and I just slapped it on and just plain wore it and never once worried about it.

I then bought a Sub and used it when splashing about in the sea and finally bought a Freccione Explorer and scratched the plexi when down a cave. I have got some Polywatch on order and when it arrives, I shall polish the scratch out and its job done.

What is the point of buying something and then worrying about it. It's the sure way to the local asylum.

I reckon it could be argued that anyone has a problem if they desire any kind of Rolex at all. Certainly that any sort of collecting is an illness. When I was a kid, I had a friend whose mother collected hundreds of elephants; ceramic, stuffed, glass, leather... knitted; you name it. It just had to be elephant-shaped. I was a somewhat puzzled, and slightly perturbed.

It could certainly be argued that anyone reading this thread - or any other thread here, for that matter - has a problem.

So, I'm in big trouble.

P.S. You know you have a problem when you have the most-photographed and most-published left arm in the history of all mankind.

P.P.S. Today I'm wearing my unpolished 1675 with original date-wheel.

Because some of us buy watches because we collect them. In other words, we don't just buy them to wear them. When you collect things you try to maintain their condition as much as possible and thus maintain their value as a collectible. Some people buy them to wear them and don't care about the long term condition and value. Look at any collectible and you will see that value is based on condition and/or provenance and originality. It is the same with collecting watches. If you don't care about those things then that's your prerogative, but some of us do and enjoy taking care of our collectibles...

You know you may have a problem when you wake up at 4:45pst to call Geneva in hopes that someone at Rolex HQ can tell you if the case back on the watch you just bought was date stamped originally and changed by Rolex or just not date stamped at all. Oh, and when you wife asks you where you are going you tell her that you forgot to turn off you car lights.

Yes I can see where you are coming from but as an example, my Freccione is the most valuable and collectible watch that I own.

If I scratch it, so what, I shall put it in for a service in 5 years time and it will come back as new, all fully refurbished and as collectible as ever.

In the mean time I have enjoyed wearing it as it was intended to be and I don't have ulcers worrying about it.

I accept that there is no right or wrong answer here but I do find it rather sad that someone buys something and then worries about it all the time. Just what is the point of that.

Rolex hit the map when two men, wearing a Rolex, climbed up Everest. That is what a Rolex is designed to do and if it attracts the odd scratch, just relax and live with it until the next service.

No it isn't.

When someone buys a 40 year old watch, they will put up with knocks and dents as it is part of the watches history.

If you want an immaculate watch, don't wear it and keep it in a safe.

I can understand you wanting to look after a watch but when it starts to worry you, then it is time to do something else.

You might have a problem when you bring home a new Rolex and instead of being impressed your kids ask why the have to it ramen noodles again.

OK that didn't really happen. But, when I was in college, my buddy stopped eating at the cafeteria and went on a rice and ramen noodles diet to save money and buy watches.
He went from 140lb to 120lb.

I have 3 Rolexes, a JLC and an Omega. You may call me a wearer but my wife calls me a collector.

I will concede one point, I molly coddle the JLC because it is delicate and I only wear it perhaps one or two evenings a year.
