They are both exquisite in their own way. I decided on the polar because of what pol3259 said--legibility. The black edged hands stand out against the white face more than the white gold against the black. I also love the way the lume almost glows blue in full sunlight.

Black if it is your only Rolex, white if you own others (assuming the others you own are black dialed). Rolex only has a few sport watches that offer white dials as an option. For that reason the white dial Daytona and Explorer II tend to be a tad more popular than their black dial counterparts. The white dial Milgauss, on the other hands, doesn't get enough love because it lacks the GV.

I was going through a similar internal debate last month. I ultimately decided to go with the black dial. The black dial is closer homage to the original being that they didn't release a white dial until the 80s. The black dial is a bit more rare and your less likely to come across another in the wild and the best thing about the black is just how freaking nice the dial looks in the sunlight. Its actually shifts to a brown satin color which is stunning and perfectly compliments the orange 24hr hand.

I got a polar and there were a little bit of regret I didn't do enough homework before the purchase. The original exp2 was black only. And I wanted mine to be as close to the original as possible, since I cannot to buy the original 1655 |

It's a subjective call. I was initially leaning towards the Polar, but when I went to an AD to see one in person, it just didn't do anything for me. So, I went with Black. I preferred the contrast of the solid white hour markers against the black dial and thought that made it a tad more legible than the Polar.

I should add that the color of the hour markers on the polar with the lume inactive against the white dial didn't do much for me. Picture above shows the different look. |

It was the black dial that I was originally drawn to but after a lot of research I fell for the white dial and that's what I ended up buying.

I always loved the black dial, but the last few months the white has really caught my eye to be honest.

I bought the DSSD first then the Polar to complement it & thats a beautiful duo so with your Sub defiantly the Polar :)
The Explorer II really did hook me though and I bought the black dial to complement the Polar earlier this year! So with your Sub defiantly the Polar, but if I had to have one watch and one watch only it would be the black dial Explorer II :) |

I'd go white, because I hate the matte black dial.
