Apple watch sales tanking??

I think Apple will do well with this, though I didn't think it would go through the roof. The thing is that much of the functionality really relies on the owner having an iPhone.

That leaves out Android users like me in one swoop.

If the iWatch was a standalone phone, that might go places. But it isn't. It can make and receive calls through a linked iPhone, but if you're not an iPhone owner already, it's utility is severely compromised.

And if you already have an iPhone, you're going to have it close anyway, so the iWatch is not essential. So why carry around two items when one (the mobile phone) is enough, and in a lot of cases, more than enough?

Personally, while I am not a Luddite at all, I have no real desire to be "connected" at all times and too easily reached. My family has my mobile number, and only a few other people have it. As I see it, a mobile phone is for my convenience, not for anyone else's convenience. Anyone in my inner circle can reach me quickly via call or text, but I have no desire to be too easy to reach by anyone is my outer circles.

I also don't find it particularly attractive. This is a matter of personal taste.

Part of the appeal of a timepeice to me is that while it might be modern, it's conceptually old fashioned. And I'm an oldschool and old fashioned guy, so it complements me and my personality well.

Blending new tech with an old fashioned convention may appeal to some, but it just doesn't appeal to me.

I can see why it's not setting the world on fire. It's supremely unnecessary. There's a niche for supremely unnecessary stuff (and indeed, supremely unnecessary luxury items), nut something like this doesn't hit the sweet spot.

The iWatch (and other smartwatches) can't do anything my mobile phone can't do. And that's in my pocket almost always, anyway. I'd rather wear a 50 year old analog watch that has beauty and elegance over a small digital screen on my wrist.

I think the breakthrough for this tech will be when it fully replaces the mobile phone. Still, it will be tough to read web pages, rss feeds, web forums, etc., but if that stuff doesn't appeal to you and you can make and receive quick calls on a small device on your wrist, then I think it will do well.

The whole thing leaves me cold. It's not for me.

At work, we can't have tech devices powered on inside the operation. Air traffic control.

It's funny to walk by the secured doors and see the phone she'll full of iPhones and Samsungs, then a pile of Apple watches.

Quite surprising to me. I saw so many of these over the weekend in New York, and I'm seeing more and more everyday in Boston.

I bought one at launch, wore it for a few weeks and ended up selling it.

Why?

It was all too much. Don't get me wrong - I love gadgets. I swap cell phones frequently, love tinkering, all that... But it was just an overload for me, wearing an Apple Watch. All of a sudden when I received a call - my computer would start ringing, my phone would go off, and my wrist would start buzzing. As much as I love technology, I think I went in a little too far. I ended up selling my Apple Watch and putting my Explorer back on the wrist. I'm happier now.

Just got one. Watch looks fine. Will have to figure out other functions. Last night at Short Hills Mall, northern NJ: Customers at Rolex AD-zero. Even I skipped it. Customers at Apple Store: Over 100. I know Apple sells more than watches and most people were there for computers, but let's say there was far more interest in Apple watches than Rolex at the mall last night.

2 days ago I had a meeting at Universal Studios
Looking around I noticed 7 Rolex (2 Ladies DJ and 3 36mm DJ and 1 SS Sub / 1 TT Sub) and 6 Apple Watch - this was in a period of an hour.

Don't know how many people where in the park but a lot

So Apple still has some work to convince . . . .

And still I don't see the purpose . . . everyone is going for a iPhone 6+ and than the small screen on the watch ?

But hey . . . that's just me ;)

I have one, and it's the best smart watch I've used. It's better than the pebble x 10.

I think they've sold more smart watches in one quarter than all android watches since they've started making them. WatchOS 2.0 is coming out in september.

It's going to be great, but it will never replace a rolex.

It is a 'novelty item' and these sort of things sell well in countries with plentiful disposable incomes. Think Rubik's Cube and Pet Rock.
Function-wise, it doesn't fill much of a need.
What usually happens with these items is that they sell well initially and then sales taper off as they cease to be the "new thing" and people realise that they really don't do much.

1st gen, give it time. It will gain steam, the key will be not upgrading it every 6 months.
My buddy wears a Proplof on one hand an iWatch on the other hand, it's popular enough at the moment and as the OS develops for better support it will become even more popular.
Apple seems to not have many or all the options even in stock at the moment, so that alone can limit sales.

I for one don't like it, just switched to an Iphone 6 from my android Z3 that broke, will be going back to android asap.
