I'm pretty sure that it wasn't cracked. It probably had some junk stuck to it from knocking it against the frame of the door. The OP said he could feel a bump, cracks generally don't protrude outwards. The solution simply cleaned the crap off of it.

And like Peter said, this is hardly a horrifying, hair raising experience. More like an overly dramatic story telling of an event that happens countless times every day.

You're not in any position to tell someone what was scary or not. Comparing his instance to yours is like saying "oh you scored four touchdowns once? Well I scored seven!"

Let him have his moment. This isn't a contest.

One time I forgot to take my sub off before I got into the shower,
but then I realized it before I got it wet and took it off just in time.

Absolutely horrifying....it all worked out.
Just wanted to share.

It was his new watch and he thought it was a gonna and it was all okay in the end. It really doesn't get more horrifying on a Rolex forum. Where's your emotion man?
Oh, not one of us uses our watches as the tool watch it was intended to be. We may pretend on the odd occasion that we do but really we don't. We snorkel in our Sea Dwellers and go for a light walk in the woods after dinner in our Explorers. No Daytona wearer, not ever, has timed anything more than a boiled egg. We like them, we take pretty pictures for the forum and we get upset when we bash them.

totally agree

but it was funny ,,,,,,,,

glad to hear you got away with it only being paint , buy a g shock for sites , or a timex. i dont wear a watch in a situation where i would worry about wearing a watch , i have gotten into the habit of slipping my watch off and putting it into my left trouser pocket , which after thirty five years of wearing nice watches i never put anything into other than my watch , to avoid scratches , and being right handed my left leg pocket stays out the way if im lifting anything tooo ,, good habit well worth forming

I'd complain to the door company for their cheap paint that sticks onto your watch

Thats life, we buy items that suit our jobs, hobbies or just dreams. I bet most people spend lots of money on a car that has great speed and top end speed. How many times have you driven flat out to use that power ? or did you buy the car to fulfil your dream? Just the same as a Watch.

I would agree with almost all the posts on this thread; 'overly dramatic retelling'? Well, maybe. But that's exactly how I felt then.
Having said that, I hope to one day reach the rarefied heights of some of the posters and brush off such incidents with a "eh, the watch got chipped again, that's the third time today" thought.
Not using it as a tool watch? Hey, gimme a break- it's just three months old- I tend to baby my new gear! Yup, give it another decade and then....

'Not a hair-raising experience'? Yes, I agree with Paddy- one of the sanest voices ever. But the point is- to me, it was just that. And BTW Paddy, I lost all the hair on my head a long time ago.

Well, here's the watch: and if you do see a chip at 10 o'clock: DON'T TELL ME!

I'm always a bit envious of people who don't 'baby' their gear but I think you are either born that way or not.
I'm pretty particular about my stuff and there's nothing I can do about it.
If you are going to wear a watch in a rough physical environment then you need to assume there is going to be a fair bit of wear and tear.
Better chance to keep it pristine in an office environment.

Do you know what a macbook can do to PCL's ?
If you're wearing a watch you will scratch it some day, no matter where you are or what you do.

No harm I hope. We like to have good natured ribbing here. Alls well.

BTW, I don't want to be the cause of more heart palpitations - but try to ignore that dust speck on the edge of the crystal at the 58 minute mark...

But I did see one...
