An old pic of my 39mm RO PC... Not sure why it came out so small.

Mike interesting that the 39mm looks such a great size on your wrist given you arm size. Would have thought it would look far too small!

I guess...
That would eliminate the 15202 from your wish list (it doesn't have a seconds hand)

A real shame that they've moved another classic RO model from 39mm to 41mm.

As beautiful as that piece is, if I was to get another PC, it'd be an IWC (due to size and that much needed secs hand). |

No, but that's a whole different ballgame. The regular skeleton is being up sized and released at 41mm next year on a bracelet and I'm assuming a strap.
By the way, this Pats fan is holding his nose and rooting for you Bills to blitz Luck and those whiny Colts today! Next week, though... |

What's 5k between friends? I rounded up. Plus, you know, taxes. Still, im guessing like the EoT's you might be able to get these from grays at very steep discounts within a few months or so.

Wish they would have rotated month indicator slightly to align with a number. As it currently reads, Janurary (first month) is at the 12 position. If this aligned with one, with the December dot at 12, could have been able to tell numeral indication of months.

Having seen the pictures and read the press reports, here are my thoughts:
Pros - It's an AP Royal Oak and looks fantastic :) - Realistic moon display is an improvement - Additional complication is nice (week indicator, but see below) - Increased case size/module means better legibility compared to the 39mm model Cons - I would have preferred to see a seconds hand either instead of or in addition to the week indicator. - The week indicator only goes to 52 weeks, meaning it has to be manually adjusted for the years with 53 weeks, e.g. 2015. This IMO is a complete disaster from a watchmaking perspective, as it defeats the purpose of the other complications not needing adjustment until 2100. - AP increased the case size but didn't take this opportunity to improve the base movement. So four issues: The movement looks a bit small through the case back. Second, the old movement wasn't exactly the most amazing to look at, and could be more aesthetically pleasing (notice how none of the publicity shots show the display back?). Third, the power reserve hasn't improved - it's still only 40 hours, which is too short for a USD60k perpetual calendar IMO. Finally, I expected AP and all its technological expertise would increase the 2.75Hz frequency. No wonder they avoided a seconds hand on this model. - increase in size to 41mm alienates those with smaller wrists, whereas the 39mm still looks good on those that can rock the 41mm. |
