another vote for the day date, though the Patek would be tempting as well.

I love Rolex, and the Calavatra is a nice watch, but I'd get a Patrimony, I think. If the extra money is available, though, I'd say the Retrograde Day and Date, or the Ultra Thin. I'm a sucker for Retrograde hands (which is why I own a Maurice Lacroix Masterpiece Double Retrograde).

Recently purchased a new watch for my 40th birthday. Previous watch I purchased was a GMT Master 20 years ago, as a teenager. Now having 4 kids and wiser, I had to be more practical. This is what I got :)

Yes the new DD 40 is very nice and modern. I like the Roman numerals on the new models

I am a huge fan of Patek Philippe. Clearly also much in love with Rolex (that's why I'm here!). But from your excellent list, I would choose the Patrimony. It is quickly becoming my favorite dress watch of the mass-production manufacturers.

Beautiful, I love the AT. But just curious, how is it more practical? The GMT seems very practical with a date, 2nd time zone etc. Or do you mean like more economical?

Daydate recommendations:

Daydate 118238 or Daydate 40

If both are to expensive. Get a DD 18238

But def stick to a gold watch for your 40th birthday.

The Patek is in another category from the others. If you don't have a Patek, that's the one I'd go choose for this milestone.

Happy Birthday! I'm turning 40 soon as well. I thought about a birth year watch for this occasion, but I'm not sure I want something that old. Im now thinking of an Omega speedy pro as I don't have a chronograph in my collection. My advice would be to get something unique to your collection to remember the occasion. Have fun shopping!

I must agree with Neil's recommendation. The DD is a phenomenal reference.
