The Z Blue is stunning and so unique that I had to make it my own. That said you cannot go wrong with either choice because IMHO the green glass plays off really well against the black dial and that contrast just works so well. This really is a close one and I could have gone either way and been equally happy. I think what sealed the deal for me and made me go with the blue is how the dial catches the light and exhibits different hues in each light condition. It really is spectacular and Rolex did a wonderful job with the manufacturing process on this dial IMHO. Good luck to you whichever way you decide to go!

I've decided more or less on the black GV. I was comparing all 4 models together at my AD. The white I didn't like at all and the clear crystal black dial is too plain. If it had the seconds markers as the others, I would buy it.
Blue vs Black: The blue dial gets washed out by the green crystal and isn't really a nice blue hue. Only at a sharp angle under bright light do you see the real blue that you see in the Rolex stock photos. Also, the orange seconds markers get totally washed out with this dial under anything but bright lights. It is nothing special as you do not see all the details as you do with the black dial. Which leaves only the black GV. This one is more OTT than the others because of the black dial. If you're one that likes colorful items, this is for you. The orange of the seconds hand and seconds markers clearly stand out. The green crystal is also more obvious with the black dial. As a person who lives their life in monochrome (I am a black and gray person with everything), it is difficult to accept (buy). Under any light and any angle, you will see the details of this dial at all times. This for me makes it the obvious choice. The one thing I do not like are the orange hour markers at 3,6,9. I did a quick photoshop to change them white and surprisingly I didn't like all the markers white. I'm sure Rolex experimented different combinations with this dial and felt the orange hour markers were the best choice. I will say the orange markers look better under bright light than they do in shade and low light. |

Personal preference for sure Natural sunlight dances off of the bezel and markers making a nice flow beneath the green crystal |

I too fell for the Blue Z Milguass, purely due to its beauty. I also realised that, Milgauss looks better when viewed at an angle and not straight on, unlike the Subs n GMTS! If u look at it through any angle other than face on, that's when the blue, green and orange colors starts to glow! Try that, it's a beauty!!!

Anyone have an opinion which one someone with my collection should get: GV black or z-blue?
And anyone think Basel 2017 will add an additional Milgauss dial color? |

I've owned my black GV since about 2013. When the blue came out, I really loved it, and wished I could've traded mine in for the blue (but it was a gift, so I could not). But since then, I just feel like the blue would be too much color for me to wear, and I am very happy with the GV.
It would actually be a toss up for me between the black GV and the regular black. I actually prefer the all white indices of the normal black, but the green crystal is just such a big selling point as it is so unique, it would be hard to buy a Milgauss without it. |

I just recently purchased my first Rolex. After looking at all 4 variations I went with the Black GV. Or more accurately the Matte Charcoal GV.

Yes, black GV is my preference. Had one, sold it, now I miss it. An under-appreciated model.

I prefer my original GV with the orange markers.
With its narrow bezel , wide dial, no cyclops and 7mm crown it sits outside of Rolex's usual recognised format.

Reference like a sub, GMT , Daytona or even a DJ for that matter... |

Black GV purchased when 1st released. Have gotten more positive comments about it than my SS Daytona or Platinum/Blue Yacht Master. It wears very well for every day with great weight and balance. I enjoy the look of the green crystal when the watch is turned at an angle. Interestingly, the combination of the GV and orange lightning bolt second hand are what attracted me to this particular watch. Stands out in a crowd of DDS and Subs.

In my defence I did buy the GV after I had bought (and still have) the references you list but the GV is still my wife's favourite Rolex so there is your answer.

Really don't find the black dial attractive at all! But seriously infatuated with the blue!

I agree with your comments. I was doubtful about the orange markers but realise now after owning it that they are the making of the watch. They give a slight and attractive asymmetry to the dial in dim light. This is a wonderful and very original design. It is one of my favourite watches. The GV is the one to get if you want a Milgauss. |

Wow this photo brings back memories. I saved this photo just with a Speedmaster back in the day when I was just getting into watches. Amazing. Sorry, don't mean to make you feel old, John. Hahahaha

Z-blue is so much more dynamic and reactive to light than the black GV.

Blue all the way, it's mesmerizing in the sunshine and varies from almost black, to dark blue to bright teal. In fact I've almost crashed my car a few times getting distracted looking at it

I'v had my Z-blue for 2 years now.
Still think it's such an interesting watch, the depths of the blue and color-combos are amazing. It still continues to intrigue me. Been wearing it as a daily for over a year now, it gets 90% of all my wristtime and it really suits any occassion: tuxedo or T-shirt, boardroom or beach loungechair. Only disadvantage is the scratches. O the scratches... The PCLs, bezel and case have taken quite a beating as a daily watch. But hey it's meant to be worn, I try not to let it bother me but finaly ordered some Cape Cod cloths to buff some of the worst out. |
