For the age, the watch case looks pretty good.

You got me to looking at mine. My 16710 Z serial lugs (Polished previously by RCS) barely perceptible difference from crown vs non crown side. Slightly narrower on crown side, but difficult to see the very slight difference. Seems that's normal from pics of unpolished cases of later Z and M 16710's I've seen. Yours looks same. My Daytona and Explorer both unpolished, noticeable wider on non crown side. My Tudor 79090- uses a Rolex 1680 case - just the opposite, very noticeably wider on Crown side than non crown side. Again lots of pics and anecdotal talk indicating that to be correct. Maybe an over 50 year designed case, as its been suggested here all Rolex sports slightly narrower on crown side past 50 years. That seems not be the case with the 1680 case.

The anti polishing types, I refer to them a lugites , have taken this polishing vs, non polishing issue to extremes. It started gaining momentum on another forum and recently spilled over here. I've seen cases sanded by hand with 800 grit and machine polished with no discernable case or lug issues, other than deep scratches removed. Here is a balanced view point on the subject. Enjoy your watch it looks great!

Here is a great example of how to refinish a case, just stay away from machines, other than for applying polishing compounds. You can avoid any machines by using lapping paper and compounds. http://www.clockmaker.com.au/rolex/r...polishing.html

Interesting perspective, thank you for the article.

I think I actualy fall somewhere in between the two sides of this argument.
