The PVD/DLC processes for watches are rather expensive, as I understand them.

Undoing it would be no less expensive.

Gold plated - not for me. Smacks of wanting the PM and not being able to afford it.

Now, if he'd had it DLC'd black then I'd be all over it.

Gold plating is to protect the watch from scratches.

LMAO - nice one.

To each their own...not what I'd do, but then I'd still choose a steel watch over gold even if I wasn't paying.

Not something most of us WIS would do but if he got it for free and liked gold then it's up to him.

Not sure how that is an awful experience.

An amusing one perhaps, but awful?

Wait till he really starts to wear it with any regularity and that gold plating begins to wear off.

Agree I would like to see pictures. And I personality would have a hard time holding my opinions back. Bravo to you for maintaining composure and staying polite. Gold plating a Daytona? Just embarrassing.

Out of curiosity...do you know what it was plated with? 14k? 18k? And how much did this service cost? Did you press him on his reasons for doing this?

I didn't manage to get a picture, I was trying to change the subject, didn't really have much interest in it once he told me it was plated lol.
