The fact that he was paying enough attention to ask what you were wearing is a good sign......I would have said its Rolex Submariner thank you for noticing.....

Nothing wrong with Invicta though, they are not for me, but I have a few coworkers who love them. Always excited to show off newest they have. They are usually rather large, but I remember back when I was very happy wearing a fossil, so who am I to judge.

Definitely see more "fashion watches" around my office than Swiss time pieces, that's for sure.

Agree with this one, I liked nice watches from early teen years, had a variety of Seiko from the age of 15 ( still have some of them as well ) and did not manage to get my first Rolex until I was 40 years old.

At least the kid knew what an Invicta was.....most kids don't even care about watches at all.

Why is it funny that a kid working @ Mcdonalds would consider an Invicta a "nice watch"?

We spent faimily Christmas last year in Thailand and I had sub c on black nato all time. During one of the boat trips local skipper came to me looked on my watch and said :
Sir, don't tell me that you spent more than 100 USD for this Lolex .
Well.. I said a little more than that. What's wrong ?
Then he said: Sir, this is really bad copy, they even did not sell you brancelet. next time come to me and I will show you where to buy 100 Usd lolex with bracelet

Hey, a kid working the counter at MacDonalds excited about Invicta? I'd say he's WIS material in the making. Mark my words, in a few years he's gonna come across this old thread and say "That was me!"

Agree. My collection over the years was a slow progression to where it is today. I hope he is in a place one day to be like many of us.

I'd disagree. Mine keeps great time, and let me figure out what my "grail" would be for under 100 bucks. Remember not everyone can afford a 5k+ watch, and all collections have to start somewhere. They have their time and place. Junk to you might be a nice watch to them on a McSalary

Honestly your first mistake was going to McDonald's. And the universe punished you for it by having some zit-faced teenager call your Rolex an Invicta. Not worth the trip unless you're meeting someone from Craigslist to make a sale.

X2 Agree William. A watch is a very personal choice, and I NEVER criticize someone's choice of a watch; be it a $49 Casio or a six-figure Patek. It is the Passion for a timepiece that we all enjoy and can share, regardless of price point. If someone is happy with and proud to wear and passionate about their Invicta, then I congratulate, compliment, and share their passion as much as someone wearing a platoona.

Watches are like your friend's girlfriends, regardless of what you really think, you always compliment how beautiful they are.

This. The kid deserves credit for showing an interest. And for holding down a job. Those attitudes should be cultivated, not squashed.

McD's is a pretty good company that may give the kid an opportunity to learn values, move up the ladder, etc.... Have his own Rolex one day...

while i am sure McDonald's instills great values and opportunity in its workers, It's a mistake to eat there, the food contains almost no nutrients or whole ingredients and it is ridden with preservatives and chemicals. If you can afford a Rolex, you should be able to afford to take better care of yourself. A jar of peanut butter and some granola takes less time to prepare than waiting in the drive thru

I think eating there with the...preservatives, nutritional content, etc... Is debatable. That goes for anywhere....any restaurant, grocery store, so on... I eat McDonald's daily, have nice watches, and keep in excellent shape. I believe you can eat anywhere (including Mcds) responsibly, if you just pay attention. Not my job but, I do personal training as a hobby. Anyway, I'm off on another topic altogether.

Clearly not an insult. I would not expect most kids to know much about a Rolex. It's nice to see younger people even interested in watches!

I'm with the other posters that are glad to see A) the kids working for his $ and B) has an interest in watches. I see a lot if kids out there that would rather be unemployed than work a job that they see as beneath them.

Way off the rails...

Why is it funny that a kid working @ Mcdonalds would consider an Invicta a "nice watch"?
So this went a bit off the rails from my original post becoming a back and forth about everything from work ethics to youth in society to nutrition and somewhere in there some points about watches...

Great discussion but let me please expand a bit on what I found funny about his Invicta comment.

In wearing a Rolex watch I would think it fair to project that most/all of us have been asked at some point;

1. Nice watch, what kind is it?
2. Nice watch, is that a Rolex?
3. Nice watch, is that a real Rolex?

Having been asked all of those before it would not have caught me "off guard" the way his question did as he in a sense "flipped the script" by making no mention of Rolex, or asking one of the "usual" questions, but going right to Invicta is what I found funny in a "paradigm shift" way.

I was not rude to him (I didn't think) and answered him politely. I just found it a funny commentary that we as "knowledgeable" watch collectors/wearers/experts are very familiar with the "hierarchy" of different brands and know where Invicta and Rolex fall on the pecking order while this young man, perhaps not yet having gathered that "knowledge" and formed other opinions, thought that a nice looking watch might be an Invicta like another it would seem he has seen and admires (or perhaps has himself but he was not wearing a watch).

He seemed like a nice enough kid, did his job well and under other circumstances there may have been further conversation but waiting in line for food (Which is certainly of questionable nutritional value but tastes really good!) was not that time or place.

Love the exchange of thoughts and opinions though, this forum is great!!

I was at a bar with a friend who had just bought a SMP and I was wearing my GMT. The bartender, who we are friendly with, overheard our conversation and said he had just bought his first nice which he was wearing. It was a HUGE Invicta that has the bezel of a Sub and a Chronograph, and must be 50mm diameter and 20 mm tall. I just said congrats and enjoy it.

+1...as Goose Gossage once mentioned while toiling for the San Diego Padres & former owner Ray Krok, McDonalds is poisoning the world with their crap.

then again, to each his/her own...in order to enjoy your Rolex (or multiple Rolexes) over a longer period of time, one might consider taking albmich's comment/suggestion into consideration. how can you go wrong, unless incredibly lazy or totally unconcerned about the questionable shortcuts taken in the production of modern day fast food?

What goes around, comes around.....

I like the way your thinking... I am sure the kid would never forget it!

A few months back, I stopped in at a 7/11 and the clerk, a nice young man, complimented me on my DSSD. He asked me if it was a Tissot. Without thinking, I replied "No, its a Rolex."
He reacted like "Oh, Im sorry, I have never seem a real Rolex." I basically said thats ok. He will definately be a future Rolex enthusiast. You could tell he like watches.

No big deal really... Cheers!
