Instead I went with an AP ROO.

I'm admittedly still in the honeymoon phase, but I absolutely love this watch. I couldn't be happier with my choice. What it's coming down to for aside from style and looks, was wearability. Although most would argue my ROO is physically not the more comfortable of said watches, but it's definitely the most versatile for my lifestyle.

I already have a few different OEM strap options and will likely move on a matching B bracelet soon. Anyway don't need to convince you, and I also admit 6 months from now you may be reading about me trading for a gold sub or something.

But for now I have no regrets.

whoah, that is seriously hot. looks great on you.

Now as to your question I think they are comp!imentary to each other as most/many AP buyers already own a Rolex or several.

Don't compare watches on price as there will always be something more expensive. Buy what sings to you and enjoy. AP and Rolex are both great for any collection.
I'm sure the vast majority of people who 'hate' or dislike AP don't own one.

If you aren't sure that you love a watch, you're not going to drop $15k or more on one.

I would add an AP to my collection but not at the expense of my PM Rolex.

AP is something that people would buy after one or several Rolex. It is from different league

Both are awesome brands but it seems AP is more exclusive as they make less watches

I love AP watches but as far as "bling" goes. The gold rolexes like the sunburst sub would win out.

I own both, but not a gold Rolex. Both are very reliable so I'm not quite sure what you are talking about. And repair cost is not outrageous. It is more than Rolex but should not be the reason you venture away from a certain watch when you're paying almost 20k already. Otherwise you might be spending out of your price range. Being ugly is personal opinion and everyone differs there but its a valid reason not to buy the watch. But its definitely reliable and isnt anything outrageous for repair costs.

I would choose AP ROC only because I don't think I look good in gold haha. Maybe one day I will get a gold one.

So far I haven't found found a gold Rolex that interests me enough to buy one. I have and really like my AP diver. It's on a rubber strap although I purchases one of their new DD SS bracelets for it at the same time I haven't put it on yet. My focus has switched since I started all of this in Nov. 2015. I'm now mostly interested in watches I think will hold their value pretty well. It seems like the PM Rolex watches don't do that all that well and at least for right now I'm not that drawn to YG for myself. All of that being said I suspect I will own a number of PM including gold Rolex watches in the near to mid-term future. I also don't feel real driven to add more AP's at this time but I've not been on the AP discussion form recently. I think most people that spend time there will fall in love with the GORGEOUS photos the owners post there. I know I did. My prediction is gold Rolex will win by a landslide here. To me this is a case of being a huge winner either way. Russell.

I think we need more Photos on this post to persuade (enable) us all to take action. And because they are just fun to look at.

I'm pretty sure that's why Larry said "Hate" is a strong and an overused word.

Then my mistake, but he quoted Paul's post not the one that Paul was responding to.

There's always someone who pontificates without any proof of real experience...

The cost of servicing an AP is marginally higher than a Rolex. Look at it over 5-7 years and the difference is negligible.

AP's are reliable and they're tougher than they look.

They can be worn everyday in the same way most people wear a Rolex.

If you want to know what it's really like to own and wear an AP ask an owner rather than someone who just spouts a bunch of blather with no ownership experience.

In the case of the ROC vs Rolex, you get get gold in the Rolex, but the movement is no different than the one in the $12,000 steel version. If you buy mechanical watches because you like mechanical movements then the ROC is the no brainer choice. If just like gold then you might as well buy an iWatch in gold and be done with it.

Don't forget AP takes 16 weeks to service too!!!

I traded in my 116509 Daytona w Met dial for a SS AP, and never regretted it for a second... If the YM2 had a date wheel in it, I would take that in WG over the ROC. Other than that, I'll take the ROC.

It depends on the complication, age of watch, condition it's in, and how many other watches are in the queue.

Not a fan of the Offshore models myself, would love to own a regular stainless steel Royal Oak. but not over a gold Rolex.

Where did you hear that? I sent my 15400 to APSC Clearwater for its third year warranty validation last month. They serviced the movement, laser welding on the bezel and I had it back in about 4 weeks.

I was just being facetious, as an AP hater on another thread stated the service time for a 15202 was 16 weeks...

Gold Rolex all the way.

The APs are gorgeous, love the ROC but it's too big for me. And although the finishing on the AP is stunning, I prefer the beauty of gold. Still haven't tired of the WG color shifts. That's what makes it interesting.

Now if the ROC was 39mm with a see through caseback, well that's a different story...

I'd take the gold Rolex over a SS AP. My reasoning simply this: The Rolex is gold!!!

Now WG or YG, that is the question.
