The scepticism relating to lists is interesting, it my view it depends on how well known you are to the AD and whether they are in it for the long term or short term.

I use a very established (been in business for over 200yrs) jeweller and they look after their loyal customers because it's about long term business rather than short term gain for them.

I was first on the list for the SD4K and they then had a chap who wanted to buy two, but wanted to be first on the list. They were only getting an allocation of two in the first delivery so they couldn't do it without bumping me. Despite him offering to pay a premium, they didn't do it. If I had never ordered from them before, and the other chap had, perhaps it would have been different. And by the way, perhaps that's right.

This is the 5th Rolex I've ordered from them and my 6th watch in total. I also buy all my jewellery from them (including an engagement ring and wedding ring for my wife). I would never buy anywhere else. I do this so that when a hard-to-get watch comes onto the market, as long as I'm quick, I have a good chance of getting what I want.

I also benefit from good discounts, although I won't even be asking this time!!

As for the wait time, it may be quicker than people think. With the SD4K people thought it would be four or five months, when in fact it was about two months.

Rolex surprised us once....maybe they will buck the norm and have them at dealers in a couple of months. Double shocker!

Agreed. It's common sense, and sound business for the dealer. They all know who "butters their bread".

Its a nice looking piece and I won't want to wait, lol.

I'll pay a few K extra and get it sooner from a trusted seller on here.

Possibly a few more years I get to enjoy it is the way I look at it!!

I also learned over the years there are 3 lists:

1. People who buy 5-6 watches/year from that AD

2. People who put money down

3. Happen to have an extra one laying around now because they've been out so long and I don't have a bigger deal where I can use this watch as leverage...

If you don't put money down, you're most likely automatically on the 3rd list and don't even know it. (couple friends that worked at ADs enlightened me)

Please don't take me the wrong way but this is something I never understood

I personally would never pay few k extra "premium" to get the watch early from a trusted seller.

Yeah if the TRF sellers get there hands on it. Probably be similar or more in price if the wait list is long.

I hope so. I've been waiting to join the Daytona club and would love to get one sooner than later!

AD today said they usually get the SS Daytonas in pairs with both dials represented. The earliest they have gotten a new Basel release was August. They are hoping to get a couple of sets in initially but when the next shipment comes is anybody's guess.

They weren't taking deposits yet. I imagine it'll take at least 12-18 months for my name to come up, anything before that would be gravy.

I just called my AD and said they received hundreds of calls regarding the daytona already. they are only getting two for the first release. well, that just means i will be able to get my hands on a few years from now...

My ad added me to the list. Not sure how many are before me. He also said the price he is hearing will be in the low $14s.

I don't do wait lists because they typically equal premiums. That's fine if someone really really wants a particular model. I've found that our trusted sellers tend to get most models reasonably fast. I'm sure they have a few people they have promised Daytonas to already but once they start appearing on the "For Sale" section of the forum, I'll start contemplating my purchase.

Wow. The datograph would soon cool this ceramic Daytona hype if it was half the price, a truly stunning chronograph

Never hurts to get on a wait list. I bought the 16610LV and the 116520 off wait lists for MSRP without having made a prior purchase.

Granted it took some time to get off said list but why not try.

Putting down a deposit or being first to call to get on a list might help.

IMO, nothing trumps your relationship with your AD.

This is one of those instances where grey dealer won't be better than AD.

GL to everyone.

Don't forget the cautionary tale of the Millgauss people, that green crystal one was hot tamales when they came out and now it's....a Millgauss. Patience.
