Take your 116520 that you ADs never wanted us to have and good luck at selling them without a heavy discount

Doesn't matter. Look at what happened with the 16600 once it was discontinued. Even today with the updated ceramic reference, NOS 16600s command a premium. People are willing to pay extra for a stickered/untouched example.

As much as I'd like ADs to now heavily discount the 116520s, I think they'll go with the 'I won't be able to get another one"/"this is discontinued and thus now rare to find brand new" angle and maintain a similar pricing strategy. These watches have already been paid for so there's no major incentive to leave money on the table.

Not unusual for an AD to have both, but yes unusual for them to be in the case.

You know, you would think this is going to be the case...but the market is weird. Rolex is, likely, to discontinue the 116520's and that means that they will become more rare and, potentially from a collector standpoint more valuable...or maybe not.

I bet some AD's won't even let me sign up for the waiting list on the new Daytonas if I haven't purchased a Rolex from them before. lol.

But if they get one in why not just put out the cattle call to all the big clients to see if any of them want it? That may take a couple of days but after that, if none of them want it, throw it on display. Heck, they keep the big spenders happy and feeling like they got special service just by calling them and offering them first crack. But to sit on a watch that could sell in a day for a couple of months or more on the off chance one of them might maybe walk in AND want a Daytona, AND a stainless one at that?...not so sure about that.

I suppose I can see perhaps some situations but generally speaking I'm not sure it makes business sense for the AD to tie up money like that.
