Wow....quite the post. Will need to revisit tonight at home, thanks!

I am curious how a forum like TRF would have reacted over the years as the Daytona evolved into what it is now.

Evolution of the Rolex Oyster Cosmograph Daytona

That is a great post!
Can you explain what is a porcelain steel Daytona please?

Amazing post - that really should be a sticky!

The one thing I noticed as that the new thicker ceramic bezel makes the dial look smaller when compared to the original.

The other thing I would love to see is a panda dial for the new ss model. that would for sure be worth buying!

With regards to the collection history of Daytona, the moment of “breakthrough” does not arrive until 1988, with the introduction of automatic movements and a rediscovery of manual Daytonas. Due to the slow supply from Zenith, the manufacturer of the El Primero caliber, and an underestimation of market demand, retailers find themselves with lines of clients waiting for the delivery of their new watch.

Just came across this thread. It should be stickied. Anyways, I just learned about this transitional Zenith Daytona using the previous generation style dial. Have never seen this before. What model number did it carry and has anyone seen any other examples of them? They look like the modern 116509-0072.
