Bummer! I would get an estimate from Rolex but I gather they will recommend a recase. I would let an independent laser weld it.

Ouch, that one had to hurt. As others have said as far as the case goes if it's really bothering you laser welding is probably going to be your only choice. Please keep us posted.

That is really unfortunate.

In addition to replacing the pin and fixing the case, you'll want to have the movement checked. That's a pretty severe impact.

The pin should be an easy fix but not the indentations. I hope you get it fixed soon.

Had that happen to me once, but fortunately there was no damage. Took it to a Rolex authorized service place and they put a new pin in and said it was something like $25(!). I brought up the fact that it was under warranty and they said fine and didn't charge me.

Would agree - maybe just take off any rough edges and replace the pin though clearly it would be wise to check how or why it came out....just case there is some other problem that caused it to come loose? Would certainly avoid a new case if possible.

So sorry to hear about this. Is this watch still under warranty? Since the pin clearly failed causing this damage, is this something that potentially could be covered under warranty?

I am very impressed guys. 40 replies and nobody has said " The damage gives it character". "it will bring back special memories"! I'm sure the OP is grateful for that. I know I am.

This is a good lesson for insurance. Somebody else mentioned it above. For roughly a small amount of money a year this world would be covered. If they cannot fix it then it would be replaced at no cost and no deductible.

I hope it gets fixed quick for you. Sorry this happened.

Sure there will be dents left behind but one would really have to know where to look to see them. I wouldn't sweat it OP. Please share "after" pictures with all of us.

i would walk into wempe at 5 ave & 55st and pick up a spring bar at their service desk.

you can check out their great selection of watches vs put up with RSC B/S.

its a far easier experience.

as far as the nicks, i would just have them polished out or leave it be, as said you won't see it, the idea of laser welding would cause me far more concern.

Luckily, I am in NYC and my hotel is a block away from Rolex NYC. My question is 1.) will they replace the pin for me on the spot and 2.) do you think they can buff out the damage at least a little? If so will they charge me? Thanks in advance! Everyone check your pins and screws!
How did the pin get loose?

Can't say much more than what's already been said. Sorry to hear about this. Good news is that if you intend to keep this watch forever, this area shouldn't be too noticeable while on the wrist. The area should obviously be polished out but mostly for the comfort on the wrist and the movement should be checked. But flipped around its still a beauty!

Best of luck.

Back on the wrist! I had a good experience at the RSC. Comfy leather chairs and pretty Asian women . It look about 30 minutes for the watchmaker to inspect the watch. They replaced the lost screw and made sure the rest were secure. As far as the damage, they inspected the movement and my watch is now running slightly slower than spec (whether this occured due to the fall or was already running slow is anyone's guess, although it was always dead on with my iPhone previous to the incident). They recommended a service, but knowing I am in town visiting from Tennessee, they suggested I wear it and monitor the time myself and decide if it is worth me servicing sooner or later (after about 9 hours or so we are still dead on). This recommendation came before I gave my two cents which I appreciated because I didn't want to be guilted into leaving it unless absolutely necessary.

As far as the god awful goober the pavement left on my case, even a service would not completely remove it. They could definitely improve it, but without replacing the case, there will always be a slight imperfection . Some of you recommended a laser weld which I may look into, but the damage is in a spot that I will never see when on the wrist and can probably live with. Especially after a service. I appreciate everybody's concern and input. This is what makes this place so great. The people. It was pretty gut wrenching when it happened but y'all started making me feel better as soon as I posted. So thank you TRF! . I look forward to supporting some of you in time of need (God forbid!)

Happy to hear latest. Wear your watch in good health and it now has a bit of battle scar worth mentioning later down the road.

If this watch were still under warranty, and the only reason the watch fell was because the pin/screw holding the clasp on came loose and fell out, why wouldn't the case damage be covered under warranty? It is not like he dropped it by accident. It should be considered workmanship.

Always painful to read things like this but I agree with your final assessment - the cosmetic impact damage could have been far, far worse and all things considered as you say it doesn't appear that it would be noticeable while on the wrist in daily wear.
