The all black has something really unique about it. Black dial looks well on you!

Thanks for all the responses to my OP. Another observation I've made based on the new Daytona's for sale on the forum is the white face's asking prices are higher. Are there any production stats on the Black face vs White? Are white more rare?

I had my Rolex cherry popped with the white dial Daytona C early December 2016 after I saw it on magazine and went immediately like I've got to get myself one of these. I did some brief research and looked at both black and white dials and when I found that the little dials for the black are silver instead of white, it became a more obvious preference for me to buy the white dial which has smaller dials in black color which go nicely with the black ceramic bezel. I am a newbie to Rolex watches and am certainly no expert but I think may be for the same reason the white dial version catches more eyes and higher demands mean a slightly higher asking prices. Before I saw this watch I didn't have much feeling about Rolex watches at all, now I'm spending a hour a day browsing through TRF and other websites - with a particular interest in Daytona and somehow the older generations also started to catch my eye now. I guess that's what people refer to as the Rolex bug-bite, huh huh .... And like yourself Daytona Dreaming, I too own some IWCs but they never got me hooked like this before. Get whichever Daytona dial color (or watch) that appeals to you the most.
Opinions of others are just that: opinions. |

I'm still unsure which I prefer.
I have put my name down for a black dial and will also take a white dial. So I guess I'll take whichever. Unfortunately, I haven't seen the Daytona Ceramic in person, so hard to say which I prefer as I'm sure photos won't do it any justice. I think I'm lending towards the black, however I wouldn't mind the white dial as it's a contrast to my SubC. Hopefully, I'll get a call in 2 years. |

I like each of the dials for different reasons.
No bad choice with either IMO

the big aesthetic difference that sticks out to me is that the subdials on the white dial are black, and they pop in a very stark way that I find attractive.
prior to seeing it in person I'd thought the reverse would be true for the black dial--that the subdials would be white--but they're actually a silvery color that gives the dial a little more of a shine/metallic look. I may be strange but for some reason this is kind of the defining difference for me. |

If you don't have prior AD relationships, you may have to take whichever you have an opportunity to purchase without ability to be selective. Good luck

I like both, but looks are deceiving based on lighting. In harsh light, details on the face of the dial are sometimes difficult to see; whereas white dial is more legible in a range of lighting conditions.

I asked my husband:
It depends on the setting. If you have a career whereby you wear suits daily and go out to nice dinner spots, the black is the way to go. But if you plan mostly to wear it in informal settings, white is the choice. My advice: Get them both! :) |

Tried on the white, was very underwhelmed - looked very sterile and flat to me.
So I asked for the black. Zero regrets. The pictures don't do it justice - the way the subdials capture different light sources in combination with the glossy black dial give it the right amount of sparkle while being handsomely refined. It's my favorite watch in the rotation. |

As shown before: I recommend you get three, black, white and silver...
;)

I like the looks of the white the best but I think I would actually buy the black if given the choice. I say this because I would wear it most often with long sleeve button down shirts. I think the black is more at home in a dressy setting where as the white is more casual.
