As an owner of both, I would absolutely choose the Explorer I. You are trading the date function for perfect symmetry.

My guess is once you graduate, find a job, start to make come money... you will be buying your second! I vote for the Explorer (for now... the DJ later!)

Explorer is a great watch. That's the choice in this scenario.

Nice one Sam!!
For the OP - I'd go with the Explorer as I prefer sport models. FWIW I wear my Subs, Sea Dweller, and Deep Sea with suits so the Expy WILL WORK with a suit and playtime is a given!

if those were the only choices, I would go white DJ. If it were me, I would buy a sport watch though.

This is not much of a one watch forever group, although we have probably all told ourselves that at least once. I have said that and now have 5 Rolex...oops. Anyhow, nothing looks better with a white dress shirt than a white dial watch, so I say DJ!

For a one-watch purchase, it would have to be the DJ. Given any thought to the fluted bezel? Really sets that watch apart!

I think you're going to need a work watch and a weekend watch. Get either of those two for work.
Start saving for your weekend watch now! (Sub, ExpII, GMT...) |

Exp1 looks good on you but how long are your arms? Are you a t-rex or an orang-utan? New or old hangs on this...

x2 (For the Explorer, make sure it's the new for 2016 version, as has been said.) Oh, and, starting at 21 and a lawyer? Good luck having this be the last one! ;-) |

Both beautiful watches, but the DJ is the more suitable for your situation.
You spend a big slab of your time at work. It is a 'dress-up' setting. The DJ is slightly more suitable appearance-wise and has the date function, which you will use. When I was a young person, weekends could involve all sorts of varied 'action-oriented' activities and I preferred a cheap plastic quartz watch because I didn't have to worry about damage.

Two great looking watches and both classic's in their own right.
As to a decision, probably the DJ for the date function. Though imo you can't go wrong with either :)

I would get the Datejust 116200 w white roman dial. Change the bracelet to black leather strap, and you have a formal dress watch. This is one of my grails.

I'd personally go for the explorer. I just find the DJ.... kinda well... boring. It's a nice watch, but a little vanilla. The explorer is very similar with a black dial, but just feels more special. I know half of it is just the name "Explorer" that makes it more special. If were called like, Oyster Perpetual black dial no date it wouldn't have the legacy of the original explorer models and wouldn't be nearly as appealing. Regardless, it's those little things that make watches special, and the explorer is definitely a special watch.

Between the two I would say Explorer.
If you don't mind me asking, why not go with a Submariner or GMT instead? |
