I have a RG Daytona with the ceramic and traded my SS Daytona 116520. Kind of miss the SS as it was a classy watch. Haven't seen the 116500 in person, but it does look great in the pics.

I agree

Any chance your AD has a black dial

Definite weight difference. The platona weight isn't an uncomfortable weight. It balances well on the wrist so it does not feel as heavy as it seems when you first pick it up, but you know it's there.

SS absolutely disappears weight wise. Also well balanced so I can wear a little loose without any flop.

Both gorgeous to look at. Still working out why, but I do find myself grabbing the SS more often. Waiting to see if that wears off, though it's not like I had the Platona long before the SS showed up. Both are in honeymoon period.

Wow big congrats for you. It's hard to find item around here!
Let's think like this..116520 for the dressier look and 116500 for sporty look.
Enjoy both nice watches.

The fuss is that the old Daytona was 70/30 dress watch to sport watch whereas the new Daytona is 70/30 sport watch to dress watch.

The black bezel makes all the difference, swings the pendulum back to the Daytona's heritage as a tool watch and not a piece of fancy jewelry. It's a step-up to the Submariner again, not a step-up to a Datejust.

it's funny how inconsistent the pursuit of this watch is...

Most times it seems to be a struggle to get one from a dealer. Need to be on the list(s) that in themselves have requirements to even get on them....mainly be a large spend, previous customer...then WAIT....months, maybe over a year..

The OP made it sound super easy...just call up AD, get immediately put on the list. Wait a reasonable period of time...then Voila! Daytona C....

My DaytonaC is here but......

You can easily flip it for profit thanks to the hyppe, so if unsure don't wear it or remove the stickers!

I prefer the white dial 520 as well, but do prefer the black dial 500 over both... My 2 cents

It really is amazing. Here in Brazil it's been as described by the OP, but then again, it was never hard to get a Daytona here - only more expensive because of currency and mark up differences.

So, I called up all the AD in my town and have my name on their list for a white dial (I love my 116520 Daytona white), finally I got the called yesterday. I was excited like a little kid at Disneyland, I went to picked up my 116500 with a big grin on my face. Well, the grin didn't last that long when I take it home to fully enjoy it. Compare the white DaytonaC to my white dial 116520, I actually like the SS bezel more because it seem more dressier watch. I already have the Omega SMP in black which I wear it daily, sold the SubC Date because it wear so big on my small wrist. I want to add a black dial Rolex to my collection, may be wait a few months for the black dial Daytona or Datejust 36, or GMT II BLNR. For now, I prolly hold on the white Daytona and hopefully it will grow on me or I just gonna flip it. Okay rant over, thanks for reading.
It is funny, but I knew this would be the reaction from many buyers. The 116520 is simply CLASSIC, no doubt about it. It is dressy, sporty, can be worn on bracelet or leather and still looks great.

The 116500 while it is a very special watch, I do not know if it is for everybody. It is definitely not as dressy, but for my personal tastes it is nearly perfect as I wear a Sub every day anyways.

I hope it does grow on you, as it would be a shame to give up such a great piece!

It was my 40th bday gift to myself, it was my first Rolex I bought new at the AD, it was a reward for all the hard work, the sweats, the tears and all the late nights building up our business. I actually take a lot of pride into the ownership of that watch.
It sound like you have a lot of (earned and well deserved) attachment to your 116520. I would keep that and flip the 116500 ceramic, and purchase something else that sings to you, or keep it in the bank.

I got quite a bit but I am not ready to part with it yet. It's look cool in my collection. If I decided to let it go, it will be to the highest bidder or at least my asking price. For now, it's belong in the safe.

Black Ceramic or may be Platona whichever come first. I think most likely a black dial Daytona. Thanks.
