Yeah, you only have to pay the 50% premium to buy one from one of the TS here.
That's enough to make me not want to buy one from him.

During the last few months I visited ADs in Rome and Kuala Lumpur. In Rome I have seen plenty of Daytona (non-C), even SS Daytona was available for sale. Did not ask price as I already bought DJII. Also, in Kuala lumpur I have seen plenty of TT and PM Daytonas. I think that generous discounts were possible for that models.

I think that after few years this hype on Daytona - C will end and it will be possible to buy this watch by just visisting AD :)

My only new Rolex was the first one (16610) 21 years ago..... ever since buying used ones so don't have to hear that crap from AD's. There are plenty of good offers here from TS's and other mates, so no need to pay full MSRP unless you absolutely need to be the first to ever touch your watch outside of Rolex!

I wonder if Rolex can swap out the bezel on an unsold Daytona to the new ceramic and sell it as a new issue?

I am a business owner and I always treating my VIP with utmost respect and building a happy healthy relationship. I must cater to their needs at all cost, they will alway get the best available products on the shelf bc they are very important to the growth of my business. If I have a one hitter to the shop, I will treat them with respect and also cater to their needs. However, if I only have ONE item and both want it, I will make it very clear that my VIP will get it first. You can hate me for it, but I value returning, no hassle customers.

Absolutely no qualms about that business practice. But according to the OP, it's just the way that sentiment is communicated. If communicated better I may feel inclined to look at another product or decide to come back again at a later time. But if I'm given the impression that my dollars not are even welcomed there in the first place I think that's just poor salesmanship.

I agree bud, in the line of customer service there are zero tolerance for rudeness. You alway have to treat everyone with respect and sometimes you have to lie that you don't have item in stock knowingly you're saving it for your best clients. It is sucks but it's quite common in most business practice.

I've been in sales and lieing is part of the business. Sales people will say anything to make a deal. Unfortunately sometimes theres too much lieing to get the deal.

Exactly this, I have no Axe to grind with anybody on here , I have used my AD for 23 years and have purchased around 25 watches maybe more from Ash in person ,Why wouldn't a AD supply his regular client s first . It just makes sense, I paid list for mine exactly what a first time buyer would pay , I just don't have to wait several years to own it.

I guess my original point was that its a bitter pill to swallow and kinda insulting to hear someone tell you they have something that they wont sell you just cause you havent spent a ton of money there. I get its common practice but it does suck.

I think I would rather have a dealer lie to me and say they dont have when they do than say yes I have it but no you can't buy it or no I dont have it and even if i did you cant buy it.

Yes I agree that you should take care of good customers but how you handle the rest of us is just as important. IMHO

Simply a case of truly amateur sales people.
In Switzerland, when you inquire about a scarce watch, typically the salespeople are more apologetic in their response.
They also treat you like you are the only customer in the world.
Simple stuff really....

Also what constitutes being a good customer to be able to buy a daytona? Having spent 30 or 40k? Or do you have to have to spend 100k or more? Outside of rolexes I dont buy any other jewelery. Even if I bought all my rolexes at one dealer I still wouldnt be considered a good customer to have them hold a daytona for me.

I guess thats why I buy from people from this forum and not dealers.

As Groucho Marx used to say.

"I would never want to join a club that would have me as a member"

IMO telling a customer he can't buy something is worse than not offering a discount. I had one dealer tell me they had an SS daytona in the safe buy only took it out for the VIP customers. Well guess what I won't be buying from you.

Salesmen think this makes customers envious but in reality it just annoys them.

The sad part was it wasnt even the new daytona it was an older one.

I'm sure if they had unlimited stock, they'd take your money.

At least they are being honest and telling you up front to not count on one coming from them. Could it be delivered better? Absolutely. But it'd bother me more if they lied.

also....i posted a thread about a month ago....daytonas won't be hard to get this time next year...sure, you might have to wait a month or 3 but thats it....im sure some 'rural' areas may wait a few months but MSRP is the ONLY $$$ amount to pay for the new daytona...
