My advice; simply buy what you like from a TS or AD

At the end of the day, I extended the 'recommended' interval, and got my Rolex serviced 2 years after. Main reasons are affordability, and timing to travel to get it done.

Two things I did appreciated. Outstanding experience, and wonderful box to come with it.

There is the idea that if you know it's overdue for a service, and you also know there's several things wrong with it, at least get it appraised for a repair. It may end up costing much more if you leave it, which is why you need to know it's current condition.

If you don't notice anything wrong with your Rolex, and it's due for a service, many would argue, as long as it keeps operating normally there's no need to service it. Again a personal preference. Rolex won't do just a polish, and conversely when they do service, they definitely will polish it. You cannot ask them to do specific part replacements, they will replace only any parts that require replacing, but will include it in the quote first before you agree for them to proceed.

Regarding the loupe, that is a personal thing. I don't see any reason why
folks would try to discourage people getting one. I agree it is not essential, a nice to have, but if you are looking for reasons not to buy a Rolex, a loupe in your hand is not going to make any difference.

Some of the older models are much harder to come by, so there will be not much opportunity to be picky anyway.

Make no mistake, the fun part is to look and hold as many as you can. At least you have the real look and feel for a model that you may or may not fall in love with, but you will at least have a comparison to past and future similar models should you be interested in one later.

I wondered if I would flip, meaning exchange my piece for another. I must admit, the novelty, excitement of wearing my Rolex is a little weakened than what I originally got it, but I wouldn't trade it for anything, regardless what it is. There is so much that I appreciate and adore about it.

There is another model which has really caught my interest. I put it on my wrist, it is heavier, and feels absolutely amazing. I love the electric blue. I could never see myself trade or sell it if I ever got it. Then again I can't answer for sure if I will definitely get it.

Let's just say if I was able to complete my collection of 6 watches, this one would definitely be amongst that 6, that's locked.

Alot of good info in here for a first time looking to buy person.. What do you guys suggest for me? Hmmm.... some caution may be in order. I am quite hesitant regarding purchasing anything off ebay. It is literally a buyers risk. I heard of an unfortunate incident where a Rolex buyer off ebay that it was not genuine, and ebay managed to help get his money back.

I do not know what the policy of ebay is today, and I am not trying to say anything about your particular item. I believe it couldn't hurt to contact ebay support to check what the terms and conditions regarding these kind of purchases.

It is a lot of money to part with from an online transaction.

thanks for the reply. Ive been doing my research and found alot of great djs but almost half dont have the original box or some with no papers makes me uncomfortable. I really have my heart set on the 16013. Not sure what to do. Im not sure any local places have the watch im looking for. Anyone ever use trufacet?

I think I would only bust out the loupe after deciding I want to actually buy the watch... just to make sure I don't have to bring it back later. Looking at every single watch you handle with a loupe would probably be annoying to any AD.

Annoying? perhaps. However you don't know what you want until you pick a watch up and really see for yourself. Many AD's don't mind so much if you take a look at more than one piece. It doesn't take much additional time to look at it with a loupe as opposed to looking at it without it. If they lose their patience, they shouldn't be working in retail who sell luxury items.
